Any idea how to make this game work?
This port of the NES sequel to Solomon's Key looks great:

It boots to this:
and I can make it do various stuff in Russian, but none of it is "start the game".

Just press enter.
The game file is already highlighted and can be launched by pressing enter.

That makes it ALMOST start, but it hangs before the actual game because the disk is read-only. My emulator (a port of FUSE) doesn't let me set it to writeable. Is there any way to edit a TRD file to make it writeable?Chris23235 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 12:17 pm Just press enter.

Do you have the trd file still zipped within an archive? If so, unpack it.
I just tried it with fuse (on Windows) and had no trouble running the game from the trd image.

No, it's unzipped. Windows FUSE defaults to non-write-protected, the port doesn't

I started the game in Fuse under Windows by simply opening the trd file. It automatically loaded the Scorpion 256 roms and booted the disc. After pressing enter the game loaded and started.StanVanman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 1:52 pm No, it's unzipped. Windows FUSE defaults to non-write-protected, the port doesn't

My all-time favourite Russian game this one. I remember asking how to play it on WoS in 2004!

Which Port do you use? On Windows or Linux or MacOS?StanVanman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 12:36 pm My emulator (a port of FUSE) doesn't let me set it to writeable. Is there any way to edit a TRD file to make it writeable?
This is from Fuse Windows v1.6.0:

This works fine for me.
I downloaded the 4 Scorpion ROMS from GitHub. Double clicked the TRD file, FUSE (for MAC) started and at booted straight away into that Russian screen. I pressed enter and started the game started straight away. I didn’t have to change any preferences or settings in FUSE or anything at all.

I think I better rephrase this.

Is it possible to make a .TRD file read/write?
I have a game in a TRD file which is in read-only format. It needs to be read-writeable to run in an emulator, and I can't change that setting in the emulator. Is it possible to edit the TRD file in some way so that read-only mode is disabled?

Maybe you should set the emulated disk as non-protected. For instance, in Spectaculator you must select View > Disk drives and then click on the padlock icon to make it "open".
Which emulator are you using?

@StanVanman,
Fuse has this too. Disks by default are not write protected.

Re: Any idea how to make this game work?
I doubt there is anything about the file that makes it read only (unless it was zipped or is actually on read only material or protected by permissions etc)
It's almost certainly something you're going to have to change in the emulator settings and, if you can't, you might have to find a different emulator with write support for disks.

I don´t think so. Write-Enable/Disable is a hardware-function not a software-function.StanVanman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 3:05 pm I have a game in a TRD file which is in read-only format.
