What does your alias mean?

Y'know, other stuff, Sinclair related.

These are some fascinating alias origins. Mine is quite uninteresting and straight forward:

Oloturia is the Italian word for holothuria, or sea cucumber, and originates from the main character of a comic strip I used to draw in the years '00/'10 named "Gigi the small sea cucumber" (which you can see in my avatar).

Merman - half man, half fish

Because of my surname (Fisher)

On other forums, I have used a scan* of a merman from an old Dungeons & Dragons Bestiary...

*The scan was originally done on my C64 with a Handy Scanner. Neat bit of kit.

Rather long story...

Around the end of the last century I used to work abroad among a team of British gentleman.
Obviously because of my German nativity one of them (Greetings John H. :D ) called me jokingly "Fritz" and that became soon my call-sign in this project.
Once in a restaurant he was there with his wife and I introduced myself: "Hi, I am Fritz. My real name is Andy".
She looked at me rather confused an John said "Don't worry darling, he's German - but a mad one."

As this was definitely one of the best times in my life I decided to pick the nick :D

Remember the time I signed up for WOS in 2003? Was it really that long ago? It was. After listening to a large amount of Electric Wizard (amongst other similar bands), I took my username from the title of their third album - or, more specifically, the thanks list from the liner notes which probably gave rise to the album title in the first place:
Electric Wizard wrote:HAIL! WARNING, GOATSNAKE, SOLSTICE, SUNN, SHALLOW, ALL OUR FRIENDS / FAMILIES, HPL, REH, CAS, WHH, CONAN, REGGIE NALDER, ALL WITCHFINDER MOVIES AND OTHER HORROR, SPREE KILLING AND THE MIGHTY DOPETHRONE!! SMOKE IT!!
For the record, I've never smoked any kind of leaf or other substance in my life and I have no intention of ever doing so. Those who do, were providing the soundtrack to my existence from around 2001-2004, so it was just going that way. And the WOS username was condensed to its initials and the year I'd signed up and then used here, Sinclair ZX World and the QL Forum.

Mine is based on a misremembering of a line from the novel/film "The Cruel Sea".

The character had boundless enthusiasm towards the small sausages that were served with every dinner and I liked that.

So you didn't base your nicks on those famous characters from Attack of the mutant zombie flesh eating chickens from mars?

When I was 13 or 14 I used to draw these spoof soap opera cartoons, with stupid jokes about Neighbours (mainly) as well Eastenders, Prisoner Cell Block H and whatever else was around at the time. Clebin became the name of the soap and the town it was based in.

The first time I used it was in a spoof of the advert for BBC's hot new soap 'Eldorado'. The advert featured ex-pats in a Spanish resort sneakily peering through windows and over newspapers, and ended with "Are you ready for.. Eldorado?". My send-up ended with "Are you ready for.. Clebin?" which was just a silly word that didn't mean anything.

My class-mate laughed, so I started calling the cartoon 'Clebin'. Later it became a website, forum handle and a label for the odd game. But it's still completely meaningless...

Bit late to this thread, but allow me to chip in…

Lee is my real name. Years ago, my girlfriend began affectionately calling me "Lee Bee", which caught on with other people too, so that effectively became my name. At the same time, my life underwent a dramatic change, I gave my life to Jesus, and became a new man. "Lee 2.0" if you will, or "Lee B"! This is the name I (informally) identify as now, and the name I'll be using for my forthcoming YouTube vids.

As for the rainbow in my avatar: It started out as the Spectrum rainbow but has evolved to a full rainbow. I just love the rainbow and I'm passionate about colour. As it happens, I'm working on a couple of major projects revolving around colour! Rainbows are a symbol of Divine perfection, they're also very cheerful, which is me to a tee! :-)
