Oh, sure. No problem. Someone else well have to do the funny voices, though. You know, “Zug, zug,” “Dabu,” and “Lok’tar.”

I like the idea of having the focus on ship battles, they were always my favourite part. :) Are there any existing Spectrum games that features bird's eye realtime ship-to-ship combat in any form?
That I know of, no.
But after a quick search I found "Ships", but it's turn based.

But not real-time... there's the incentive then, definitely an idea worth exploring. :)

Overboard on the Playstation was quite fun, but there you have the same problem as converting something like Gunsmoke - three separate fire buttons for the forward, port and starboard cannons.

Forgot about Overboard, had it on a demo disc, remember playing that a lot.
The c64 version of Sid Meier's Pirates! only used one fire button, only to fire broadside though, left/right to steer and up/down for the sail. It worked great. :) I'm sure one could design something more 'dynamic' around that and maybe even using the keyboard for less 'active' actions.

Here's an old sprite sheet with various characters and their 4 frames of animation for 8 directions...phew. I think I originally produced these for a Jonathan Cauldwell game a long time ago but nothing ever came of it.

Oh, and Hutch the Rabbit on the previous page? At one point when the game was switched from an isometric viewpoint to side-on, I produced these tileable grass/rock platforms.

Thanks, man!
They remain unused after all this time, though I could use them as a 16x16px character template for top-down 3/4 view games, I suppose.

Just to clarify: the graphics people are posting here are.. what? Public domain? Free for anyone to use in any future projects?

Some of this stuff is excellent and as someone with no artistic ability whatsoever I can see myself wanting to use it (although I'm not sure what for yet). :)

Some sprites from a game port that will never happen

Image

The original game is Electro Body/ Electroman - a Polish platform game from early 90s. Rather simple and perfectly suited for Spectrum but after a thought not interesting enough to work more on it:

Found another lot of all unused graphics. This time from a shmup.

The mountains could really do with a bit of tidying up - they're completely tileable with each other -but I'm pretty pleased with the small amount of enemy spaceships produced, including the hero spaceship. I think the hero spaceship was the basis for the main spaceship in Vallation and 1 of the enemies had a brief time in Vallation before being replaced by the sprites that were eventually used. As a side note, I produced a lot more Vallation enemy spacecraft and only a small selection appeared in the final game.

The single building in the above spritesheet was also due to appear in Vallation 128K but....didn't!

I love the mountains the way they are. Pretty neat!

I'm drooling over those sprites, worthy of Armalyte except the bottom right which, while still good, is erring on cartoony.

How much tidying up have the mountains already had? They are clearly not a straight jpg conversion.

Yeah, I agree about that one. I recommend designing and pixeling 16x16px sprites. It can be very therapeutic especially when you leave them for a bit then go back.

I dunno, these days I think i’d remove a lot of it the individual pixels and remove done of the clusters of pixels to give more contrast. There are areas I might alter slightly.

Just to add some more stuff, to keep the ball rolling.

Here is a screen that I started about 2 years ago, that I have not finished yet.

Yep, I remember that it was either too thick, or too thin.
The pixels were not helping out here :)

I believe this was my reference image
