Remember, in Screwball Scramble you control the maze, NOT the ball. Therefore when you press A (down), the maze goes down but the ball goes up. When you press P (right), the ball goes left, etc. Also: it does a low beep when the ball strikes a wall. It is very easy when you know these things. Basically start at the entrance point, press all the OPPOSITE directions, and wait for the low beep each time.

I was actually going to briefly flash the ball visibly if you hit the entrance point or the dead-end "X" at the top left, but there was some damnable bug and I gave up on that because I wanted to get the thing finished and submitted. Also the real game doesn't do that (though you might get audible clues from the rattling sounds of the real marble)...

My record for the whole course in my game remains 14 seconds (proper version) or 12 seconds (slow uncompiled BASIC, where you have ages to think about your moves). You do need a bit of luck on the "unstable table".

As a kid, I broke the blind maze on my real Screwball Scramble because I got angry with it. (And the hoop fell off just because it was badly made. Not me guv.) BREAKing is possible in most CGC games but not this one... it was compiled...

Back to Crap business....

Firelord Quality Games - Marketing Department told me to do a poll about our next game.
We have a new idea and wanted to get the public opinion about the tools we will use to create it!

I know you all have spend countless nights playing our top-quality games. And we wanted to thank Jack- the only one who paid for these games.
The poll is here:
http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/pxtjoj/w ... nes-made-w

It is a very serious poll and we will be ignored very seriously if it doesn't fit our mood!

I would suggest that you pick one of the first option since I'm sure that I will ignore the other two... :)

The poll results can be viewed here:
http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/wscpjm/w ... ade-w/view
100% voted PAW so I decided to use Adventuron/DAAD for my next masterpiece since latest Lantern update is 64bit only (so I can't use linux-wine for design).

I missed this, but glad it's been so instrumental in making your decision! I'd say it's more about the idea than the dev tool anyway.

The end is in sight. Think I said 16th Dec was the deadline for entries.

No rush.

But if I get 20 entries on deadline day, they will have short reviews!

Thought provoking entry from @uglifruit

Can spectrum games be Art?

This has layers.

Thank you @Jbizzel. This was a game idea I was apprehensive about writing and submitting - but ... felt I had to.

I hope people give this a go.

It's sort of a reverse space invaders, where you are in the position of the aliens, trying to dodge the attack.

Another novel and interesting concept from @uglifruit

Good game alert! There's very little wrong with this one, proper oldschool BASIC feel about it too, with a few bits of polish. I don't have the option, but I can imagine it gets pretty heated as a two player.

Fair warning.

I am planning to announce the winner and loser of the CGC on the 16Dec.

If you are working on a game for this year....

Don't sent it. Wait for the next guy.

Only joking 😁 but if you want a reasonable review you need to send it sooner rather than later.

Let's say you should have them to me by 5th December

Then I have time to write reviews and the final judgment.

Excellent crapmanship here. Given that the cats can move diagonally and you can't doesn't allow for much running away! I had a good run without a black cat to chase away and got 149.

I'll second the kudos to Angus for coding it on real hardware. If he wants to make a snapshot with that loading screen visible, I'd be willing to put together a TAP file.

My game is ready and tested but I must work a bit to make it "mailable" to the contest. I guess I will torture the next host...

Anyway, since my submitted games belong in the top 5 , it will be insulting for all the other hard working elves* to send another amazing game!

Also, I'm planning to hire a lawyer because the contest in the good old days lasted until 23:59:59 midnight of the current year.
I think we must stop paying so much money to the host because they have become lazy.

*I mean the guys that are related in some way with the ZX Spectrum personal computer.

And I said 16th Dec right on day one of hosting. You have had 11 months - if its not crap enough by now - it never will be! :snowman

but do send your game within that timeframe if you wish!!!

There are still ten days to make a game about Santarific vengeance upon a scroogelike CGC maintainer.
Perhaps dropping a C64 down the chimney.

As someone who's entered this b...s... SMEEG HEEEEAD (Peter is always following me around with a censor broom) -- this ox-faeces since about 1998: um, you're quite wrong, the dates have been variable, and I definitely remember at least one CGC that ran into the following February.

That reminds me: Peter did take me up on my offer to send a list of "CGC game ideas I might never make" -- I can't remember posting that offer, but you know me. So I did send it. If you get nothing from him this year, then he is a Patent Troll.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that deadlines were usually until 23:59:59 plus some random time extension :)
