Expanding the search function

Post by NPI »

Hello everyone,

I have a question about expanding the search to various licenses games can have, such as: Commercial, PD, Freeware, Type-in, covertapes etc... There is already something similar under "Copyright Status" for some titles, but they can only be found searching the terms in "Group/Tag". Can something like this be implemented?

Welcome @NPI,

You can filter for 'type ins only' on the advanced search. There is an option towards the bottom. You need to choose a machine type too. There is also a link to all type-ins under the A-Z at the top of the page.

Also, below the A-Z, click tags, then click copyright status. You can then see all titles by each status (where recorded).

The best way to find covertape titles is probably to enter the magazine into Publisher, for example Sinclair User.

The advanced search is already huge, and we generally advise people who have quite niche requirements to download the database and query it that way. It's quite simple and we can point you to threads which explain this in more detail.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was thinking most about tagging Commercial games (as loosely as the term gets sometimes), or at least maybe searching by price. A "Not MIA" option under availability would also help.

Also how can I download the database?

@NPI,

Download the database created by Einar here:

https://github.com/zxdb/ZXDB

If you need it there is a good introductory thread here;

viewtopic.php?t=2032&hilit=Heidi

The GitHub page also explains the structure.

You could also look at https://zxinfo.dk/ which uses a more flexible search tool (elastic search) than us (the developer does that sort of stuff for his day job!), there is also an API if you are familiar with such things.

Thanks.

I found what I was looking for (Publication: Commercial / Full Price), although only for a few titles such as:
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... K_Breakout
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/28796/ZX81/Damper

Finally, is there a possibility to add Order by: "Original Price"?
