Nice, and ported to more computers than I've heard of. Is this one a port, or inspired by, a specific arcade game?

Well, IIRC, as for 8 bits computers, we had here in Europe mostly a "quatriumvirate", zx, cpc, c64 and msx, plus a load of weird thing like the Aquarius and etc. In Japan the "big 4" were pc88, fm7, msx2 and x1, plus a load of crazy computers.
