Post by R-Tape »

WOOT 2023 IS HERE!

DOWNLOAD THE FULL BUNDLE HERE

Image

Contents:

- The WOOT Tape Magazine itself! Usual gags and reviews
- SCREEN$ reAImagined. Spectrum art made with AI.
- Parsley Sage & The Seven Bins of Sunak. Whoa! @Joefish has given us a Christmas cookie with all the trimmings
- Blocktor Woot. Puns, platforms and the good Dr, from @Daveysloan
- Bomberrun@deanysoft's old blitz game from 1984
- Gigascreen. Images from @C.Born
- Colourfusion. Rapid reaction game from @cmal . A Hi-Score challenge waiting to happen
- Imprisoned. A dark adventure from @EdToo
- WarOfTheWorldsLoader – tech demo from @Einar Saukas. Prints the entire book War of the Worlds directly from tape. Speed readers get ready (and load at normal speed - no speed loaders)
- Face Punch Deluxe. It’s Face Punch, but posh. From @Red Zebra of Wycheweald fame
- Geoff & the Christmas Tat. More inertia based platforming from @deanysoft
- Jesus Vs the Romans. Title says it all! From @zarsoft
- Jims Mario Jukebox. Nostalgia alert! AY renderings of tunes and effects from the 3 NES SMB games by @TMD2003
- KeezeesAGD demos. @Keezees's old AGD demos of New Zealand Story and Jimbo to sandbox with.
- Operation ROTADACI. Like Laser Wheel but xmassy! From @textvoyage
- Pepe’s Day Out. by @TMD2003. Life’s tough. Play Frogger.
- Roasty. My 8 level xmassy platform game with a twist.
- Rosetta. Another one of mine. Can you solve the mystery of the runes? (Please don’t post spoilers)
- Space1999. Luís Peres and @Andre Leao's recovered cosmic text adventure.
- One Key Tapeworm. @hikoki's and my snake game with a twist. Another Hi-Score challenge in the making.
- The Titin Demo. My attempt at @PeteProdge's challenge to print the longest word in the English language on a Speccy, with AY music by @Lee Bee. BWT there are 4 text speeds when you press space. It still takes a while and stops at 189,124 letters printed.
- UgliWOOT Load. Turn off speed loading, or even better dig out your Speccy. By @uglifruit
- Crazy Christmas. This jaunty xmas flip screen platformer is by @Fransouls using the new ZX-Game Maker
- Christmas Jumper Simulator. Design it, wear it then dance like someone has a blowpipe trained on you. A bundle of joy from @flatduckrecords

Thanks so much for all the submissions. So many this year—we're not dead yet!

Now it's time to tuck into an orange pomander and a mulled wine and play the games.

WoooooOOOOOooootTTTTT!

And I loved the Shane's tribute... ;)

A month ago, at the Porto's post punk festival, while waiting for The Chameleons and New Model Army gigs, all the peple was chanting Dirty Old Town on the venue. A very touching moment...

Wonderful as always! Thanks for the write up and the wonky eyes, that's exactly what I look like right now as I nurse a hangover.

Congrats

I'm currently stuck on your text adventure (no need for hints yet - I probably just need a breather).

brilliant, brilliant stuff. That was a morning well spent.
Nice to see some good versions of some of those crap games. Although I wish there was a mode in the new Face punch to let you play with the crap graphics @Red Zebra

A fantastic early Christmas present! Of the included programs, I've finished Rosetta (a nice little puzzle), half-way through Roasty (have had a break from it after getting trapped in the bottom-left corner of one screen), and am really enjoying Parsley Sage and the 7 Bins of Sunak - it's like a greatly improved Cookie! Thanks to everyone who contributed, I look forward to going through the rest of the bundle.
All software to-date
Working on something, as always.

Is there a recommended emulated hardware to see the Gigascreen? My eyes are bleeding.

Also loving @TMD2003 mario jukebox.

I bet that code could be adapted to work on a 48k spectrum with ay and the .play command in esxdos.

Probably it's a niche crowd that would appeal too :)

I did have a version of hangman that I hoped to submit, but I still haven't got it finished 😔

Yep @C.Born recommends Retro Virtual Machine. It works in SPIN too.

If flickers badly in Spectaculator.

Congratulation on realising this. There's a lot of good stuff here.

In Roasty, is some weird control of the hero after flipping the switch a bug or a feature? ;)

Feature! You are the potato that wants to be roasted. Once you flip the switch that turns the oven on, you get so excited that you can't stop jumping. (Instructions are on the loading screen). It's an offshoot of my old Sprouty game.

(or were you kidding? )

Despite receiving some of the games weeks ago, it's only now that I've had chance to play them properly. Progress so far:

The 7 Bins of Sunak: my best is 1501 and level 4.
Colourfusion: 59 It's doing my head in - I'm trying to do look at the corner of the box and even squint, but the word keeps taking over
Tapeworm: Hi-Score 49, but I think I'm only a lucky game away from triple figures
Rotadaci - completed with 3252
Blocktor Woot - completed previously

I'm finding Crazy Christmas and Jeff's Christmas Tat really hard!
