Renegade bug

Post by berarma »

In the second stage, if the bikers aren't beat, the other enemies stay in place and you can't do anything but wait for the time out and loose one life.

Is there a fix for this?

I remember something like that happening to me too but I never got to figure out what could be the cause because I play a lot on emulators and real hardware, original and modded versions of the game..

Have you tried the fixed versions?

I always thought this was a punishment for not kicking all the bikers off. I can't remember what the arcade version did. Did it keep sending bikes at you until the timer ran out? Or just set the gang members on you after a set time? I'll have to check.

I played the coin-op back in the day in its original form and this was a feature of the game. You must beat the bikers before tackling the rest of the gang.

I thought this could be the case but it annoys me waiting like one and a half minutes until the time runs out without nothing to do. It's weird.

The fix could be dying instantly instead of having to wait.

No. There's no mention but I'll try it. Thanks.

I've tried the fixed version and it's the same. It fixes the music for models +2 and above and also feels more responsive though.

If I dodge the motorbikes, they keep coming until the time runs out, but if I jump when the bike comes, after some jumps without killing the biker they will stop coming. Same as with the non fixed version.

The graphics mod, doesn't only change the graphics but also the enemies' behaviour. The unarmed guys are immune to the jump kick. It's harder to get to the second level. It would be interesting to see if it changes anything else. But it's a 48K mod without the music and the extras.

I love this old-skool attitude. "It's not them, it's me." We need more of this in the 2020s.

In the BBC Micro game Magic Mushrooms, if you chose "load levels" and then cancelled out without loading, it would wipe all your existing levels. This must have been punishment for being indecisive. Well I certainly only needed to learn the lesson once.

P.S. The loss of my excellent MM levels is why some nerdy Lisp academic invented lazy evaluation.
P.P.S. if you didn't beat the dominatrix ladies in Renegade you would also get some well-deserved punishment. KNEEL, WORM!

Yeah that isn’t a bug. Kill the first wave who are on bikes and the the second wave (the bad guys watching) attack.

I've found a bug in the third game of the trilogy, in that the game is completely and utterly s---. If anyone could remove this bug, I'm sure it's just a simple POKE or something, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

I think it would be enough punishment loosing a life. Waiting almost 2 minutes without doing anything is sadistic level punishment. :D

Yes, happened to me also. And IIRC you can't even suicide because you're trapped in the middle screen.
I always thought that the baddies were judging you too weak to engage and they just wait you to die of shame.

This "bug" anyway was quite annoying if you used a POKE for infinite time...

Mate, I can't fix the bug but I'll buy you Streets of Rage 4 on Steam, if you can produce your original Boots receipt for Renegade III.

Alternatively, I'm told there is a series of around 48,000 pokes that will turn your turkey into the brilliant Target: Renegade.

Baddies know when you have poked, and they shun you. You ever tried going back into the casino where you were card-counting?

To be fair, this is my standard attitude these days... if I hate a TV show/movie/song/social attitude, I just accept I'm not the target audience and ignore it! And vice versa if I like something that is controversial!

Then again, if I start Ah Diddums or Arcadia without a Kempston joystick attached... I still accept the jittering as MY fault.

I think, generally, that if everyone had the same attitude there'd be world peace 😀

This is definitely the right attitude, BUT: then you see an opinion that is so terrible that you need to stop it!
