The Golden Chalice (RM Software)

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

The Golden Chalice (RM Software)

Post by jlsoler »

José Manuel Claros, a colleague from the Spanish preservation group around SPA2 has found a z80 file of The Golden Chalice (https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/6 ... en_Chalice), an adventure first (?) appeared as a type-in in ZX Computing mag.

The program in the z80 file (attached, and also to be uploaded using the ZXDB form) seems as more elaborated, with a custom character set and including two simple screens (plot/draw) of a ruined temple and a graphical map.

If you stop the program (STOP in INPUT) you will see copyright notices in first and last lines in the BASIC listing. Boths target to RM Software, based in Numansdorp (Holland), in June 1984, two months before it was published in ZX Computing.

In SC, RM Software appears now as a re-releaser for this title, actually, and being Alan Davis as the author of the program. What do you think about this?

There would need to be more evidence that the RM Software came before the printed version. A line in a listing isn't really enough, given especially that the RM version has always looked like it improves on the original and Alan would've submitted his listing at least as early as June 1984 anyway.

(As a side note, there is a later Dutch-language version port of the game for the PC).
