Saboteur II Remake/Mod by Alex Rider

Post by michellekg »

I noticed that with the announcement of a new Saboteur 2 mod from thealfest there was some confusion, because since 2015 there is another Saboteur II modding project in development. It is led by Alexey Semizarov (Alex Rider), and thealfest, I understand, also participated in it and actively helped. And now he just develops his own project, which is great!

But you can already play the speed-up version of Saboteur II, which is free of a lot of bugs. It works faster than the original by about 2.3 times on Spectrum 128K and 1.5-2 times on 48K.

At the same time Alexey fixed a bunch of bugs in Saboteur II Remake:

* if you hit a flamethrower jet, the flamethrower took damage;
* the punch cards in one of the crates were infinite;
* sometimes some of the guards would get very buggy;
* it was possible to take an elevator down through a wall and "miss" the shaft;
* the main character couldn't swim properly;
* when using the teleporter, the message about the arrival of the motorcycle was not written;
* when colliding with an obstacle while kicking in flight, the energy decreased incorrectly (as in the last fall).

And here are a few other changes made along the way:

* 100 timer units were thrown on in level 8 due to the canceling of infinite punchcards;
* Protek joystick replaced with Sinclair 2;
* in 128K-version music sounds only in the menu and is not disabled.

You can follow the development on the zx-pk.ru forum, and here I wrote a small article about this remake, although most of it is already retold in the post (can be translated by Google Translate).

And here's files:

* 128K, TAP
* 128K, TRD
* 48K, TAP
* 48K, TAP

My participation in Alex Rider's mod is limited to reporting him some bugs while working on my own mod.

Could both mods be added to our archive?

As soon as my mod is released and if Clive Townsend is ok with it.
By the way, Einar, in my mod I actively use your zx0 decompressor, even in realtime. Great technology!

I don't see why not. Alexei himself is okay with this (I asked him) and he was given permission to release the mod by Clive himself.

Alex Rider's codebase also contains means for other video and sound drivers. For example, an ATM-Turbo 2 version, but it needs testing. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... b420c5c9b9&
