The Elves of Maroland

Post by PeterJ »

Welcome adventurer! «The Elves of Maroland» is the English translation, from the original Spanish, of my first conversational adventure.

Furthermore, this is the port / remake made with DAAD between 2022 and 2024 of the original adventure, made with the legendary PAWS in 1993. An attempt has been made to improve the literature, correct bugs, add new puzzles, etc., but preserving the original story, development and setting.

Available for multiple platforms including the Spectrum and Next.

Or update the latter entry to multi-language.

I assume the Next version would need it's own entry anyway?

Regarding the Spectrum version, I suppose it depends if these changes justify a new entry. I've no strong feelings either way.

There is some past precedent for a single entry (for both language versions of the later DAAD version)
e.g. https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... _the_Storm

And examples either way of whether the PAW and DAAD versions could be combined. The argument in the past for keeping examples separate like that has been when there has been significant changes made between versions and/or a significant time elapsed between releases; often decades.

Just a bit of off-topic maybe...

Which version seems to have the best graphics?

Interestingly, it seems the art was generated by AI according to the credits on the website. Maybe "Art" credit should be updated accordingly?

EDIT: Also, the DAAD being referred to here seems to be the. Spanish version PAW by GilSoft but it's very confusing to see it being listed as a separate piece of software. Unless it's a heavily modified version for Spanish version, in which case it makes sense to list it separately. But IMO there should be some link to PAW either as a text description ("Spanish version of PAW") or an actual backlink somewhere to PAW itself. Of course, if I'm totally wrong about DAAD pls ignore all this. :)

EDIT 2: Just noticed 8BitAG's comment. Oh well.

No, it would not be true to say that DAAD is a Spanish version of the PAW. DAAD was a separate, specially commissioned development system that grew from the PAW, in a similar way to how the PAW itself came from The Quill. DAAD has its own entry in SC.

(There *was* a Spanish version of the PAW. But that's not DAAD.)

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.
