Re: New release of SpecEmu

SpecEmu has been flagged as a false positive by a few antivirus programs (namely Avast) for years. I do not think it is anything to be worried about.

I hate having to do it but have told AVG to just ignore it.

A better way would be to ignore AVG, and install a better AV. :P

Sorry, but the free antivirus arena is going downwell very fast...
- BitDefender has retired the Bitdefender Antivirus Free (an older installer would work, but it set to expire on the following months).
- It seems that Avira mines cryptocurrency (if you computer can).
- Norton is buying Avast, so it may start mining in a few months (note that paid Norton Antivirus also includes mining software).

It seems we're running out of free alternatives...

AVG & Avast were too intrusive, BitDefender has been great (I didn't know they were canning it :( )
Looks like I'll be relying on Microsoft :?
I've been a big fan of Spybot and SpywareBlaster.

Yep. I use the BitDefender Total Security (paid). I got a good deal for a three year subscription, which is what I use and I've been happy with it so far.

Still big issue with joystick support: doesn't detect diagonal directions of arcade joysticks (e.g. up+left). Tested with Hori Fighting Stick Mini (mapped as DPAD for directions).

Any game you can recommend for testing this? Can you please test with "KeyJoyTest-v.003.025.z80":

Please, others can confirm that Joystick emu isn't working well for many games including Atic Atac, After the War, etc... ?

Moreover I noticed this strange behaviour:
Kempston (port 31) works fine with Cybernoid, but my Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4 stick (XInput device, DPAD/POV-hat for directions) can't detect left+up, left+down, right+up, right+down as diagonal directions. Looks like it can't detect multiple directions at once in short.
I´ll have a look at the games you listed here.

Cybernoid (Interface 2), Atic Atac (Cursor) and KeyJoyTest working OK here for me ("diagonally controlled") under this latest SpecEmu-v3.2-2022-03-11.

However, I´m using this ATARI-Joystick-USB-Adapter "4 Port Retro USB Adapter for Atari Joysticks and Paddles (Plus Edition)" from iCode: https://www.icode.com/product/4-port-re ... s-edition/

Thanks for KeyJoyTest program! Didn't know it.
Yes I confirm that my (DPAD/POV HAT) USB arcade stick 'Hori Fighting Stick Mini' won't detect diagonal directions but only separate up, down, left, right with SpecEmu.

Your setup is working OK on other Emulators?

Of course, it's just SpecEmu. Please check with your setup how are your stick directions seen by Windows: type "Game cotrollers"... if directions are seen as DPAD/POV HAT inputs or LSTICK (axes directions) in particular. Maybe it has issues with POV hat inputs only.

When I push stick to the right (POV hat right detected):

I guess it's a issue with DPAD/POV hat directions only: typical controllers directions are configured as LSTICK, and in this case it probably works fine.
Read my msg above to check how are directions detected by Windows (POV hat or LSTICK).

Both work for me.
In any case, this is not a SpecEmu problem.

Yes it is, an issue with SpecEmu only. Some others (e.g. ZXSpin) simply don't expect DPAD/POV hat controls only, and directions won't work at all (but you can workaround this with XInputPlus for example to remap LSTICK-->PAD movements).

Example with RetroVirtualMachine https://www.retrovirtualmachine.org/en/downloads and others, perfectly working with arcade sticks DPAD/POV hat mapped:
