Re: Cover Artists 2
I had a kind of epiphany and read David Mann the first time I saw that screenshot. I searched the internet to see if there were any artists by that name and this motorbike illustrator immediately popped up. https://www.davidmannstore.com/druellan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 9:36 pm Hi! I'm reviewing cover artists again, and found this case.
The manual says: Documentation illustrated by Thomas J. Clement. But I'm not sure if it is related also to the cover.
I was looking at the manual for Saracen (https://archive.org/details/SaracenData ... ew=theater), that also mentions Clement as the "documentation illustrator", (you can even see a TJC signature) but the cover has a signature that seems from a different author:
So, I'm really unsure about it.
His output was mainly focused on motorbike paintings and I haven't found a link with the Saracen cover art.
However, I'd say his signature is the same as the one on Saracen. What do you think? Is this signature proof enough to attribute authorship of the Saracen cover to him?
Best regards

Oh, yep! I think it's him!Audionautas wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 12:14 pm However, I'd say his signature is the same as the one on Saracen. What do you think? Is this signature proof enough to attribute authorship of the Saracen cover to him?
About Black Magic, so far I can't see any signature and the Illustration is really not that similar to Saracen, so, it is an unknown for now.
About Clement, the manual illustrations look like Apple II 1 bit graphics, but I'm not sure we can credit him for the ZX Spectrum in game graphics.

Re: Cover Artists 2
With all those early U.S. Gold games imported from the C64/Apple II/Atari 8 bit American software market, I think we should look for American artist from that time. As simple as that. It's probably a matter of time to find out who they were most of them. And about Clement, I'd say it's not an Spectrum artist. That manual is not from the Spectrum version, so it's very, very unlikely he even knew what a ZX Spectrum was.druellan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 12:32 pm Oh, yep! I think it's him!

I thought it read David Mann too but dismissed it as he used to do paintings for EasyRider and didn't think his work would appear on Sinclair stuffAudionautas wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 12:14 pm I had a kind of epiphany and read David Mann the first time I saw that screenshot.

Yeah, it's odd, but we have to think that most of those U.S. Gold games coming from the USA software companies (Access, Datasoft, Synsoft, some Epyx or Microprose covers...) use the original artwork also on the 8-bit UK versions. So, if we search a bit deeper into American artists probably will find out their names. On David Mann's case we have been very lucky because his signature is totally unmistakable. Without his signature we wouldn't have set a connection with the kind of paintings he was famous for.

Did anyone recognize the artist behind these letters in the signature?:

Whoever it is also put their initials on Artic's Millimon, Snooker, ABC and Snake. What looks like their full signature seems to be on Flight Simulator:Juan F. Ramirez wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 7:35 am Did anyone recognize the artist behind these letters in the signature?:
Re: Cover Artists 2
The first two letters look like S and C, consistent with the initials on the other games. I'm not sure about the next few letters. The first looks a bit like W, but that makes no sense. Maybe it's a U. There might be an R next, or maybe another letter and an E. The last couple of letters look to me like ...RY.
S Curry, perhaps?
Honestly it could be almost anything.

According to David White, Rafa Negrete was the artist of Triple Comando with Azpiri drawing an alternative cover.
