Spectrum Computing

Well, this is gonna be a tough one. My favourite ZX Spectrum game, hell, my favourite game on any platform, Chaos, is a contender and I don't see it winning. Chase HQ is probably going to be the winner, it's technically superb, but not really my cup of tea.

There's also Chuckie Egg - possibly the likeliest that Joe Public will cite as an example of a ZX Spectrum game after Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy - which can't be ignored. Visually impressive and incredibly good to play are both Cybernoid titles.

Oh, and Commando is another decent effort at an arcade conversion for the Speccy.

Use this thread to add any more remarkable and enjoyable games to the list of contenders, it's running for a week, then at around 10am next Monday, we'll put them up for the vote so that forum members can pick their choice of Chaos. That's the idea, isn't it?

I nearly put Chiller there, but then I'd just be naming games beginning with 'C'.

The other day I played the original version of Crystal Kingdom Dizzy and thought it played OK. Admittedly, I didn't spend too long on it but I didn't see why the particular need for the new version. It should be included in my opinion (not that I'll vote for it )

No more to add, except for Cauldron 1 (enjoyed it more than part II) and Cavelon by Ocean, a very funny maze game.

Chaos is the only acceptable answer here.

Too right, and I'd like to restrict the list to just that title. I'm baffled why anyone would pick anything else. But hey, the cursed concept of democracy means I have to put in those incredibly inferior pretenders to the throne in! Grrr...

Well, I guess there has to be a bit of a quality threshold. I mean, Count Duckula 2 technically is from the Speccy 'classic' era and begins with C...

Slimmer pickings for C and most of my ideas have already been listed, but I would like to suggest Cabal - a most excellent arcade port.

Another game I played a lot and I forgot to mention is Critical Mass by Durell. Original concept.

Only need to see Chronos.

Chuckie Egg or Cookie are the true classics here

I share the love for Cookie. It doesn't usually seem to get the attention it deserves, but I honestly think it's Ultimate's second-best game (after Atic Atac).

We should actually give Pete the week off for this one. C is one of those cases where you either know straight off that it’s Chuckie Egg, or you have a think about it and then vote Chuckie Egg.

Actually, I'm quietly confident. I understand a bunch of new users are keen to join, and Luxor, Corleth, Tarithel, Shareth and Doomdark are all huge Cookie fans.

Are there any easy letters left in homebrew?
