Mark R. Jones reported on Twitter some minutes ago that the great Bob Wakelin passed away last night.

He was the artist behind many iconic Spectrum games' artwork.

Rest in peace.

What a pity, first Azpiri and now Wakelin, the 2 biggest artists in the 8 bit era

Some of my favourite inlays are Bob's work, if push came to shove I'd pick Operation Wolf. Even though it's close to photorealism they really have something that stands out, must be the airbrushing.

Very sad news - never got to meet the guy in person but everyone who did spoke very highly of him. His artwork speaks for itself...

Bob didn't like doing cartoony covers, although I have to say his cartoon work was my favourite. Loved Mikie, New Zealand Story and Rainbow Islands!

Great artist.
It's sad to see him go at this early age.
