Death animations/sequences

Post by R-Tape »

I'm trying to brainstorm notable death sequences/animations from Speccy games. Anything funny, quirky, interesting, weird or one that you will see a lot due to the game being ridiculously hard. Any genre or vintage.

So far I've come up with:

(The obvious) Manic Miner boot crush.
Curse of Sherwood skeleton crumble (do many games do this?)
Cookie upends and falls into the bowl
The dingos laughing while the koala collapses in agony

I'm sure there's plenty more. Any suggestions?

Zapped by the bolt on Dynamite Dan, and on Brian Bloodaxe too?

Dragon's Lair

Impressive - the first ten times you see it, but un-skip-able in a hard game - so definitely in the annoying category.
( also in the crumbly skeleton category )

Good call. You also reminded me of Sir Lancelot, which is so ridiculously long that it has a Tip-Shop POKE!

That's a good one. Given the insanity of that game in general, I'm glad that the author managed to restrain himself for the in-game death to be serviceable.

Blade Warrior:
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/9 ... de_Warrior

A grave falling down and first "Aaah" followed with "Rest In Peace" sampled speech.

(At the game page there is a walkthtrough video and you can see it for example at 00:20 )

The game is hard and actually you'll see very early and quite often so at some moment
it will be probably driving you mad ;)

The one for me would be the boot on the head in JSW.

Plus I think MYTH had a good one but I may be getting confused with the skeletons becoming a pile of bones when you kill them. A bit like the fantastic Ray Harryhausen skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts.

Not quite the same thing, but I love on Star Raiders II how ships would wheel away venting multi coloured fuel before blowing up. Looks so cool.
