I've gone for Exolon. Superb gameplay and truly outstanding graphics that make excellent use of the Spectrum's limited palette.

I think Elite will do well though.

I find Robot Monsters by far the most enjoyabe to play these days, but I voted Everyone's a Wally as it's a Spectrum defining title. It's fun to play, original and has great character.

The colour clash is so brazen, there is no colour clash.

Elite gets my vote. Truly an iconic game, on any system. The Spectrum version is very competent and a bit different than all the 6502 iterations which is refreshing, especially if you've already played the game ad nauseam. The UI is also sleek as hell, just seeing the screenshot makes me want to play it again.

I'm in with Elevator Action as my favourite,...oh go on then just one more go!

I went for Enduro Racer. It's very nice fast and playable racer.

Exolon, like most Raf Cecco's games is too hard for me to really enjoy it.

And Elite, well I guess either you love it or you completely don't get it. And I don't get it

I still haven't forgiven Elite for Lenslok.

Same here. I reckon it's one of the classics, generally very appreciated, but I've never got into it.

For me, Exolon is a great game. But Elite is the best in his own category, IMHO.

Evening Star for me. I just love train simulators, and this is a very good one.

In fact, this may be the first time I noticed the loading screen since I played it for years using some snapshot file downloaded from ftp.ijs.si around 1993/94.

Elite is the best 8 bits game ever IMHO

Well I went for Enduro Racer as I loved it back in the day and spent many hours playing. But the other deciding factor was the fact that unbelievably it was the only one on the list that I have actually played. I’ve heard of a few of the games on that list, but most I’m afraid to say are a complete mystery to me!

Wow! Try most games, it's worth playing them. But if you have to choose only one, try Eric & the Floaters. Surprisingly simple and addictive

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll give it a go. Plan to relive my Spectrum days when my Next arrives, like the idea of having a standalone machine dedicated to the Speccy as opposed to just firing up an emulator on the PC. Even thinking of purchasing a tape machine and buying a few games on eBay for it. Currently regretting getting rid of the old collection years ago.

It should have been impossible for Elite to lose a fair election without some kind of global conspiracy behind it. I suspect other alien races want to prevent mankind from getting skilled at space combat and interplanetary commerce too soon.

So far, 3 people expressed their preference for Elite in this thread, but it only got 2 votes. I demand a recount!!!

I don't think Exolon has aged well at all, it was quite good, fairly slick game back in its time but I find it a bit tedious to play now.

Can't believe you didn't include Explorer.

Same here. I thought Elite's fanbase would be huge.

Still, I am pleased about Exolon's superb turnout, I'm one of the people who voted. None of my votes have ended up 'winning' yet...

Still playing Elite Dangerous - so anything that laid out the groundwork over 30 years ago has been scientifically proven to be brilliant - FACT!

Floating voters take note, Everyone's a Wally does NOT shoot you the moment you press start.

Interesting poll so far. Exolon might win but the second position still isn't clear. Elite, Enduro Racer and Everyone's a Wally are great contenders.

Published by Electric Dreams, written by RamJam. A fantastic game of... exploration. I sunk months into that game when I was a kid. Nothing has come close to it since, not in gameplay or depth.
