Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
This is an awesome idea. Bravo. But it’s already clear that this one should’ve been at position 97.

Although all the cowboys' heads look like they're on backwards...
Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
What a treat. Fingers crossed for Enduro Racer to do well here.

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
I'm looking forward to this countdown and hoping for some reassurance as I can't think of 100 arcade conversions without including Pitfighter and Street Fighter 2....eek.
BTW if Rainbow Islands doesn't win then I will riot.

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
Does Commando, which is better than the arcade one, have a -1 position?

Renegade, Ikari Warriors, and Flying Shark all deserve to be among the top-rated conversions.

Hypersports, Mikie, Green Beret & Spy Hunter are also good choices.
Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
Express Raider is much better than the review Crash gave it, the 7/10 it got in YS is much fairer, BUT.....can we trust the opinions of a man who left Chaos out of his YS Top 100?
Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
Will be an interesting read, as over the years I've been unaware that certain Speccy games were actually arcade ports.
Should we assume that we're not going to see Out Run in this list then..?
Does this only include 'official' ports, or games that were based on arcade games (e.g. Asteroids --> Planetoids)?

And of course... Mister Kung Fu!
Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
Must admit I'm a bit shocked at Bombjack being so far down the list. For me it's easily in the top ten arcade conversions on the Speccy.

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
Very much looking forward to seeing it and the rest. Other than the mighty Chase HQ I don't have much experience with coin-op conversions after Dec 88 (R-Type, Thunderblade etc) and I know there were some great ones after that which I missed.

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
I didn't know this game, let alone that it was an arcade port. It looks decent.
Possibly a stupid question but why would there be an arcade machine simulating a pinball machine?
I would've thought the two types of machine would probably be sitting side by side in the 80s/90s.

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
In the case of Time Scanner, the novelty value is that it's essentially four different tables in one with in-play switching between them whenever you send the ball through a Time Tunnel. Good luck pulling that off with a physical table.
Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
I was expecting Midnight Resistance to make the top 10. This game is fantastic.
I'm not sure I'd agree about the lack of continues making it difficult. It's a pretty easy game once you get past the cogs at the end of level 3. They always cost me a few lives. You can get extra lives by shooting the fish on the waterfalls in level 4 and from then on its a breeze.

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
This is going off on a wild tangent, but talking of arcade machines that aren't video games and the representation of them as video games (hope that makes sense), aside from fruit machines and pinball games, has there ever been a computer or video game simulation of...

Crazy Crane? </a stretch>
I don't know if you only mean on the Speccy, but I've seen lots of coin pushers on Android.
Rev_Stuart_Campbell This is a great thread BTW. I've recently cancelled my subs to Retro Gamer as it seems to be 90% about consoles now, which don't interest me at all. This is the kind of stuff I love to read.

I thoroughly agree. Great thread Stuart! I'm enjoying reading each update.SteveSmith wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 9:38 am @Rev_Stuart_Campbell This is a great thread BTW. Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
I've not played WEC Le Mans before today, but on first impressions I'd say that the ramp/wheelie mechanic adds an extra layer to the gameplay in Enduro Racer, and that the desperately-gripping-the-handlebars animation when you mess up adds valuable character to proceedings.Rev_Stuart_Campbell wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 10:16 amMaking these hard, unpopular but empirically correct decisions is why us professionals get paid the big dollar.
I'm getting paid the big dollar for this, right?
Meanwhile, this
was way off the mark. Good grief, man.Chaos...was effectively represented ... by Rebelstar
Out of interest, was Laser Squad considered for the Top 100 and bumped in favour of Rebelstar?

Well, I like it.
