I owe my choice of career to the stimulus that the Spectrum had on my young mind. I presume many of you here have similar stories. A sad day.

Posted this on WoS and I make no apologies for pasting it here.
It had to happen eventually but it's a sad, sad day. More poignant for us on here than for many I expect.
Thank you Uncle Clive. Thank you so much for what you gave to us 40 years ago. It literally changed my life. I wouldn't be doing the job I do now, and providing for my family, without your little box of wonders.
RIP Sir Clive.

Re: RIP Sir Clive
A real shame as I don't think we ever got to know his recent thoughts on the Spectrum and computing in general. I for one am endebtted to him for all the hours of enjoyment and also my career in software.

I was briefly in the same place as him - a ZX Microfair in 1987 or 1988, but never met him.
Ah, Sir Clive. You were my entry point into computing. It's what's paid for the bricks that surround me. RIP.

Re: RIP Sir Clive
This is one of those news you know you will receive some day, but wish that to happen as late as possible.
I cannot but express my sadness for the loss of the man responsible for my first forays into information technology, computer graphics, videogaming, you name it. And for contributing to an essential part of my personal imagery.
Riposi in pace.

Re: RIP Sir Clive
Few can say they've achieved as much in their time. To almost single-handedly revolutionise the way that the average person thinks of and interacts with technology is simply incredible. Yet to him, the computers were just a side-business. He applied his ingenuity to many other fields, with a palpable confidence and keenness to innovate.
Rest in peace, Sir Clive, and thank you.

Goodness me! That’s not that kind of news I wanted to read today.

Good bye, Uncle Clive
Yes, it had to happen one day but I always believed it's not yet. You always seemed
so full of life and stamina, making new toys and marrying 40 year younger women.
We'll meet on the other side of the rainbow one day. The Speccy rainbow, of course.
See you, great eccentric.

Thanks a million, mate. Especially for making our dull and grey life behind Iron Curtain in the Eighties bearable.

I was thinking something to say, but the only words in my head are: "oh, sh*t!"
Re: RIP Sir Clive
So very upset about this, I've never met the man but him, the ZX81 and ZX Spectrum are such an important part of my life, it's like losing a close family member. Absolutely gutted.

Re: RIP Sir Clive
Just read the news and I had that feeling that everything has an end. Really sad.
I will always see him as an innovative entrepeneur that introduced first electronics (watch, calculator, ...), then computing to the general public, at a very interesting prize. Even not many years ago release that bike... always something to invent.
Rest in peace.

Re: RIP Sir Clive
Sir Clive made such an enormous impact on my childhood that this news has truly saddened me. I've enjoyed playing with the technical marvels he brought us no matter how much he was derided for the C5.
Re: RIP Sir Clive
Very sad to hear this. Thanks for everything Clive. You were in no small part responsible for my lifetime interest in computers, not to mention my career, and for that I'll always be grateful. RIP.
