Re: Aztec
Um . . . no instructions? Not even a list of controls?
Every man should plant a tree, build a house, and write a ZX Spectrum game.

Re: Aztec
The information on controls is on the Game dev thread on ZX-DEV.

Re: Aztec
Since nowadays most prefer to watch a video before even trying the game, here is a video preview.
Spoiler Alert!
The surprise is revealed in this video.

Re: Aztec
That's where I looked, but that link still downloads something called the "pre-release version".

Re: Aztec
That´s the final version, so far, isn´t it RMartins ?
Re: Aztec
Yes, the pre-release is the CURRENT final, or most up to date version.
If you can see the preview of the next pieces working on the top-left corner, that is surely the CURRENT final version.
The game still has some stuff that I want to add/finish that was not possible to complete in time for the contest deadline.
Although the game is perfectly playable, with a lot of the intended features already in.

Re: Aztec
Ah, now I see. I'll just wait for the finished one
Re: Aztec
It's the version submitted for the contest.
The game is fun & playable and has a lot to be discovered, for players who like puzzle games.
The final version, when available will only have a few more features, that will enrich but not change the game play in any significant way.
The most significant changes, will be:
- faster rendering and removal of rendering raster glitches by using a double buffer.
- Support special pieces that will match any piece of the same color, once a 2x2 match or larger is made, as long as it has contact with a matched piece. It's like a Power-Up to match more pieces, to help out, when the board is crowded.
- Add AY Music (by Lee Bee)
Re: Aztec
I found it particularly curious, that no one seems to have noticed that the game uses a fake 3D (parallel projection), which allows full 360 rotation of the board (if you satisfy the Totem gods), and uses fully opaque and colored graphics, which is something never done before in ZX Spectrum, as far as I know (except my own Extruder Title screen, but which wasn't textured).
I wonder, if there are too many games and players are spoiled for choice by having to many options to play

Re: Aztec
Just some basic knowledge and tips for playing the game:
1 - A new 2x2 piece will wait a specific time before starting to fall.
2 - A new 2x2 piece, once falling, will do so at a specific speed.
3 - There is an horizontal Light Beam that traverses the board at a set speed.
4 - Making a multiple of a 2x2 vertical square match of the same color will mark the pieces for removal.
5 - Pieces are offered to the Gods/Totems (hence removed from the board), when the Light Beam passes over the marked pieces.
6 - Gods/Totems are pleased by receiving offerings (matches).
7 - You must not please only one of the Gods (do matches for both colors), since Gods are jealous of your offerings and the one being let down will punish you.
8 - You can explore the freedom of the after life, using the extra 3D board space, if the Gods are pleased.
9 - The larger the amount of pieces removed per Light Beam pass, the larger the score.
10 - Each new level shows new offering patterns.
11 - Settings for 1, 2 and 3. change according to the level you reach.

I had noticed it and wished to try the game, but to this day I haven't understood where you can actually download it from, or if it is downloadable at allRMartins wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 4:00 amI found it particularly curious, that no one seems to have noticed that the game uses a fake 3D (parallel projection), which allows full 360 rotation of the board (if you satisfy the Totem gods), and uses fully opaque and colored graphics, which is something never done before in ZX Spectrum, as far as I know (except my own Extruder Title screen, but which wasn't textured).

It is not very hard to see if you follow the thread in the ZX Dev forums:Alessandro wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 7:31 amI had noticed it and wished to try the game, but to this day I haven't understood where you can actually download it from, or if it is downloadable at allRMartins wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 4:00 amI found it particularly curious, that no one seems to have noticed that the game uses a fake 3D (parallel projection), which allows full 360 rotation of the board (if you satisfy the Totem gods), and uses fully opaque and colored graphics, which is something never done before in ZX Spectrum, as far as I know (except my own Extruder Title screen, but which wasn't textured).

So what you are saying, is that the download link has a visibility problem ?Alessandro wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 7:31 am ...

That could explain, the lack of comments

Yep, I'll updated it in the meantime, when I have some free time.Alessandro wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 11:01 am Thanks. So the final and definitive version will come next year, I guess
Currently I'm recovering my sanity from the huge rollercoaster (AKA sleepless nights) that was to make the game playable for the contest deadline.
