Showcasing my graphics
Showcasing my graphics
Hi all! Sorry for kinda broken English,I'm not a native speaker, I'm from Russia, to be exact. I'm doing ZX Spectrum graphics for over half a year, maybe someone's interesting in it. I'm trying to use several distinct visual styles, and to avoid clashing at all costs :
Did some experiments with graphics drawn on the border (thanks to introspec for helping):
Also still trying to use flash-attributes to the max, others seem to like it:
More works are in the ZX-Art website:
https://zxart.ee/rus/avtory/g/grongy/
I hope you will like it! If you would like to use my graphics or to request one, contact me, we will discuss it.

Re: Showcasing my graphics
Fantastic stuff! Really like your bold colours and the way you work around attribute limitations
Re: Showcasing my graphics
Marvelous! Do you use a ZX Spectrum to do your pixel work or an emulator...

These are stunning. The Star Wars and Robocop ones are my favourites as I love they way they have zero colour clash but are still incredibly bold and colourful. Brilliant work.

These are just awesome! The last one in particular looks to me like a Don Priestley game that never was:

Hi Grongy ,
I knew your work from the ZX-Art website, and chose one of your images for the Spec-Art section of my new Annual.
Nice work indeed

Very nice!

Now this is quite a great first post. すごい絵ですよ、グロンギさん!
The very first picture posted is a Star Wars logo. So fitting, couldn't help being reminded of this very short snippet from Episode 1:

Palpatine = the SC forum and its members
Grongy = young Anakin

Re: Showcasing my graphics
Very nice! Can you draw for games?
Re: Showcasing my graphics
Great stuff! You've got the skill
And it looks like you can draw in different styles. Some of the pictures are more geometric and clear
while other are more detailed, ornate or fuzzy

Re: Showcasing my graphics
Either my experimental viewers (they support 48K and 128 classic Spectrums and some Russian clone), or The Viewer by Kpacku, see https://hype.retroscene.org/blog/902.html (however, The Viewer is Pentagon-only). I am sorry my viewer is still experimental. Not many people were interested in border art, until Grongy came and resurrected the genre.
Re: Showcasing my graphics
Yes, of course, very few. no one at all.

I forgot something about Viewer by Kpacku. I sinfully thought that something else exists besides ...
I'll try

Re: Showcasing my graphics
Look, there is no point to get sarcastic. I wrote my viewer in 2013, and between 2013 and 2014 two people drew 3 images. One more image in 2016. And this was 5 years ago. So, yes, very few people are interested.azesmbog wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 7:03 am Yes, of course, very few. no one at all.

Love these. Great stuff. Thanks for showing your work here
Re: Showcasing my graphics
Your work looks absolutely excellent. Thank you for sharing.
Re: Showcasing my graphics
I particularly liked the ones with flashing parts. Really well done.
Re: Showcasing my graphics
Thank you all for kind replies, you guys rock! I just finished another picture, once again tried to do animation using flashing attributes. Don't ask me what' exactly I drew - paintball + lasertag, I guess..? I hope you like it, I think that finger pulling the trigger isn't that bad!
Kinda shameful to admit it, but I'm using standard MS Paint as a drawing tool. Also the old version of Paint Shop Pro (from like '99) comes in handy, I'm using with 8x8 grid on. No, I don't have real Spectrum right now and I've never tried to draw using it, but I suppose it wouldn't be the most comfortable thing for me, dunno why. I guess it's easier to do things with more or less modern equipment, drawing with Kempston on old graphics editor for Spectrum may be a torture for a guy who gou used to comfort.
Well, it would've been interesting to try it out, but I don't think I would do something usable for in-game graphics. It's much easier to do static screens, when it comes to movement, it all becomes more difficult. Anyway, why not, everything's discussable.
Sounds a bit menacing, but okay! Thanks!XTM wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 2:52 pm Now this is quite a great first post. すごい絵ですよ、グロンギさん!

Well, introspec is actually right. Border graphics aren't as popular for Spectrum artists as gigascreen/multicolor modes, it's still quite new.
Re: Showcasing my graphics
I believe that border graphics heavily depend on your Spectrum model. They aren't static, they have too be generatedBorder graphics aren't as popular for Spectrum artists as gigascreen/multicolor modes.
by some code running in a loop. And a code working on one model won't work on another model.
If I remember correctly, Pentagon gives you more possibilities with border than other, original Sinclair models and most pictures
with border graphics were made for it. Pentagon is some kind of standard in Russia but in the west it's not, nobody is developing for Pentagon
here. So maybe compatibility problems are also a reason why those border tricks are not so popular.
