Is C. N. Bystram https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/x-list?label_id=2064
the same person as Charles Bystram https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/x-list?label_id=2349?
We may never know, but considering that Charles wrote the very Monty-Pythonesque "Brian Bloodaxe", and C. N.'s "Crusher" involves a big stomping boot, it seems extremely probable.
C. N. Bystram = Charles Bystram?

Yeah surely that's Brian Bloodaxe's Charles Bystram? I know the world's been rather bonkers of late, but given the coincidence of style, date and (AFAIK) rare surname, it would be excessively bonkers for them not to be one and the same?
If Charles Bystram or anyone that knows him is reading, please let us know! @druellan I reckon it's safe to merge these two authors unless proven otherwise. I'll stake PeterJ's house on it.

It's a Polish surname, incidentally. I was surprised to discover this because it sounds so English, like a cross between Byfleet and Chatham
Re: C. N. Bystram = Charles Bystram?
The litmus test of course, is whether Crusher has Primary Imbalance™. Unfortunately only Charles Bystram would know.
Re: C. N. Bystram = Charles Bystram?
I'm Polish and it doesn't sound very Polish too me.Charles Bystram

Yes, we have a word "bystry" which means quick or clever. But the ending is totally foreign, we don't have word forms
ending with "-am".
But yes, if someone who doesn't know Polish would have to invent a Polish name, he could come with something like that.

It seems that "Bystram" is a Polish surname, rather uncommon and concentrated in the Gdynia area:
