Given the age of Spectrum hardware, I'd think that you're taking the bigger risk by not recapping them these days.
Finding something else to practice your soldering skills on first might not be a bad idea though.

The white bit at the bottom (part of the mirror) makes it look like JSW is standing on a loo, which is quite fitting.
