For both Firefox and Chrome, I needed to be logged in before the Dark Mode (beta) link was shown.

...And as an extra, it's the same issue for unread notifications, viewed from the bell/notifications icon at the top of the screen.

Ones that are already read are fine, it's just the unread ones. May be the same style, not sure.

Oh, also the advanced search screen, some of that text styling is dark-on-dark.

Hi! I hope most of the problems in the content pages are now fixed. Internal pages like the advanced search still have some bright backgrounds, but overall I think is better.
I also did some review of the quote, code and spoilers background.
First level quote

This is a spoiler

Code: Select all

10 PRINT "This is a bunch of code"
20 GOTO 10

If it’s available, look at the very bottom of this page… click the link “Dark Mode (beta)”. It’s under the “Powered by phpBB® Forum Software © phpBB Limited” and “Privacy | Terms” text.

@druellan The new dark mode is great, thank you! A couple of wee issues I’ve noticed:
  • When clicking on “Mark forum as read” it displays a blank box with the dotted line in black. It may be displaying the text and is probably white on the white background
  • When doing a mention of another user, like what I’ve done here with you, displays all the user names in a list box - the names are in white against a light grey background, pretty much like the spoiler tag, so it’s really difficult to make out any names
Both of these issues on the mobile view using Safari on an iPhone.

I suspect it’s keeping the white colour for the dark mode text but the background colour for these 2 options haven’t been amended by using dark mode.

There’s no ‘Dark Mode (beta)’ option at the bottom of my page. I’ve logged out and back in and still nowt. Is this beta running on a first come, first served basis?

Thanks, and yeah, I replaced all the font colors, but for the backgrounds I'm going one by one, so, yeah, I'll take a look and fix it.

No, should be there, but perhaps you have the page cached. Do this: click on the refresh button on the browser while holding SHIFT. You are looking for a small text at the bottom of the page that says "Dark Mode (beta).

Hi.
I'd welcome a dark mode theme as well, but I cannot see any Dark mode option anywhere...
I'm using Firefox btw.

I can see it at the bottom but only while using the "zx prosilver" theme in "user control panel->board preferences". With the standard stile ("prosilver") it's missing. Im using Chrome.

Thanks @+3code,

@ZXDunny,

Go to ZXDunny on the top right of the forum, and click the little arrow. Choose 'User Control Panel'. From there click 'Board Preferences' Under 'My Board Style' choose 'ZX ProSilver', and click Submit.

You will then see the Dark Mode option at the bottom of the page.

Peter

PS - Please mention @druellan in any queries. Cheers

Great! Thank Peter J! ;)

I really enjoy this theme.

How about making it the default? ;-)

The original theme will always be the default, but it's easy to change to the ones designed by @druellan if users want to.

I don't see that using Brave browser on mobile (a Chromium based renderer).
@druellan - any ideas?

EDIT - oh now I see it. In the footer. I was expecting it to be in the larger main options part!

Edited my post. Feel like a moron now. I think it's my eyes. I'm right on the cusp of needing bloody varifocals, and that font size is so small!

I vaguely recall trying the new theme (not the dark mode) when it first came out and wasn't grabbed by it, but now I really like it. Maybe it's the larger clearer text. I now feel like an old duffer, but based on the age thread I'm at the younger end of the distribution at just half way to ninety. Gawd.

The dark mode is good but I dislike the flash of bright while it renders. Would be annoying in a dark setting.

Hi! Glad you like the theme! The bright flash and the kind of obscure way to activate it is all because this is still an experiment, built on top of the light theme. All is going to be fixed once we get close to the final form. There are also some alerts, dropdowns and texts that are illegible due to bad background and font color, I'm slowly fixing that.
