Crikey! seeing a time-lapse like that is stunning! MORE time-lapses please, so interesting!

What software do you use to superimpose the perspective lines and grid lines?

Incredible artwork!
Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
Thanks. I've not come across aseprite before. Just had a look and it is full of useful abilities.helpcomputer0 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 8:32 pm Sorry for the late reply. I use Aseprite and there's a plugin for it that generates perspective to any point, but you can draw the lines yourself it just takes time.

Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
Here's a loading screen I recently finished. I think it took me longer than any other.
Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
Great loading screen to what looks like an excellent game.
Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff

Im just curious how you draw human figures, do you use reference images?
Thanks

Most of the time I start with references but change things a lot. The character was facing the demon at first but I turned his head to see the helmet and twisted the right leg to suit that more.

thanks i like the monk and the woman facing the forest landscape the most

New landscape finished today, "Abbey Ruins"
Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
I must have spent at least 10 minutes just studying and admiring this latest piece.
Do you pre-plan your pixel work to align to the 8x8 background attribute limitations via a grid or do you adjust your pixel work on the fly to fit? Your use of colour attributes are a work of art on it's own here.
I think you could outdo any adventure games' artwork through the spectrum years, really.. this is next level.

The Hobbit is begging for this!
wonders how many screens there are Wikipedia suggests 50 but the 128k version says 55

It would be amazing to see art like this in The Hobbit but I somehow doubt helpcomputer0 would be as enthusiasticNitrowing wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 1:14 am The Hobbit is begging for this!

I think it's 55 screens in 128K version, but those screens are also compressed. They are much more compressible than this detailed and dithered style so you'd probably only be able to fit 30 or so into 128K along with the game code.

Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
I do it on the fly mostly. If I pre-plan too much it tends to come out looking more aligned to the grid. Generally I place down 8x8 tiles first to get a feel for the shape and colour and then put in the detail. Here's a timelapse of this one showing that:WallyX wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:31 pm I must have spent at least 10 minutes just studying and admiring this latest piece.

Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
It looks like the screens are 256*128 or a bit taller? And a lot of them look mirrored to some degree. It might be doable one day.WallyX wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 2:32 pm It would be amazing to see art like this in The Hobbit but I somehow doubt helpcomputer0 would be as enthusiastic
