Thanks! This wasn't that long, maybe 2-3hrs at most.

What software do you use to superimpose the perspective lines and grid lines?

Sorry for the late reply. I use Aseprite and there's a plugin for it that generates perspective to any point, but you can draw the lines yourself it just takes time.

Here's a loading screen I recently finished. I think it took me longer than any other.

Most of the time I start with references but change things a lot. The character was facing the demon at first but I turned his head to see the helmet and twisted the right leg to suit that more.

I must have spent at least 10 minutes just studying and admiring this latest piece.

Do you pre-plan your pixel work to align to the 8x8 background attribute limitations via a grid or do you adjust your pixel work on the fly to fit? Your use of colour attributes are a work of art on it's own here.

I think you could outdo any adventure games' artwork through the spectrum years, really.. this is next level.

It would be amazing to see art like this in The Hobbit but I somehow doubt helpcomputer0 would be as enthusiastic :D

I think it's 55 screens in 128K version, but those screens are also compressed. They are much more compressible than this detailed and dithered style so you'd probably only be able to fit 30 or so into 128K along with the game code.

I do it on the fly mostly. If I pre-plan too much it tends to come out looking more aligned to the grid. Generally I place down 8x8 tiles first to get a feel for the shape and colour and then put in the detail. Here's a timelapse of this one showing that:

It looks like the screens are 256*128 or a bit taller? And a lot of them look mirrored to some degree. It might be doable one day.
