Thanks to @toot_toot for trying to untangle the ambiguity of some US Gold/MicroProse releases, I'm not sure we'll ever get to the end of that, so I'm going with the ZXDB take and hoping it's all cool...

Airborne Ranger was pretty good. Didn't bother with the simulators. I'm not a serious person.

Never liked flight simmy stuff, nor football games so passed these by.
Airborne Ranger looks interesting enough but never played it.

I put a lot of hours into Gunship on the Speccy, both 48k, 128k and +3 versions.

Loved Microprose Soccer too, the original Sensi Soccer! If you turn up the banana setting you can make the ball almost come back on itself if memory servers.

But it has to be Gunship for me. Volunteer Hazardous Duty against First Line Forces was the best. Just avoid the ZSU-24s, deadly on that difficulty setting.

This is a tough one for me because I played most of these games and their often more renowned sequels on the Atari ST and PC in the early 90s.

In terms of what's on the Spectrum though, I'd have to go with:

1. Gunship
2. Microprose Soccer
3. Project Stealth Fighter

If it counts for anything. I just lost my lunch hour on the 128k playing Gunship again.

Three missions, training (easy although I almost fluffed the landing), SE Asia against 1st line troops and got my eye in for targeting, then full on Western Europe, Volunteer Hazardous Duty vs 1st Line troops and got pummelled into the lovely green grass by two SAMs I never even saw...

Good times!

In second place is Airborne Ranger, with 8 votes.

A distant third is Project Stealth Fighter, with 2 votes.

Joint fourth, 1 vote each: F-15 Strike Eagle and MicroProse Soccer.

Hi Pete - any reason the proportional results do not include the votes that were not given with a top 3? If I'm analysing the results correctly, you are granting three points to #1, two points to #2 and one point to #3? I say it should only be fair to add the three points for anonymous non-proportional votes? Not that it changes the outcome significantly, but then the results are:

Gunship 41 (#1: 2 named + 11 anonymous, #2: 1 named)
Airborne Ranger 26 (#1: 1 named + 7 anonymous, #2: 1 named)
F-15 Strike Eagle 3 (#1: 1 anonymous)
Microprose Soccer 3 (#2: 1 named, #3: 1 named)
Project Stealth Fighter 2 (#3: 2 named)

It has to be a minimum of three games, in the relevant forum thread for it. I don't do a top two. People are welcome to make a top four, a top five, whatever, but I'll always count the top three anyway.
