Just voted for Out Run.

It hasn't aged very well, but when I got it back in the day I enjoyed it a lot. The proper level of difficulty and i suppose it has the best graphics and movement in only 48k in a Spectrum.

I raise you Chase HQ and WEC Le Mans.

I'm abstaining for the moment, but I will probably vote like you for Out Run. It's annoying, because on nearly all the 8-bits, it plays like a brick.

Outrun for Spectrum is, if you take everything into account, an average game.

It has good graphics, sprites are big and detailed, for example your car is 64 pixels wide, unlike any other 8 bit version. The tunes are good and faithful to the original too.

But it's unfortunately slow, annoying slow. And sometimes it gets even slower like in the level with stone arches above the road. All the fun of speeding through countryside is gone.

Chase HQ and WEC Le Mans are good examples here, totally beating Spectrum Outrun with playability,

I agree with you that Chase HQ or WEC Le Mans are far better games than Out Run, but, back in the day, I don't know the reason, I loved and enjoyed the game a lot. Maybe I had in mind the superb arcade game I used to play these days.

By the way, I've always loved the 'On the Run' loading screen.

I'm thinking of changing the name of the game I'm working on to begin with an 'O' as this looks like a pretty poor show!
(I've already changed it from a 'B' so I wouldn't be up against myself in future polls. But it's now a 'G' and there's some damn good old stuff under 'G'! )

I can't say I've played them all, but none of them seem remarkable to me. It's hard to pick when there were such close fights before like JetPac vs JSW.

Weird case with this 'O' letter.

In case of other letters choice was often hard as there were too many great titles.
Here choice is hard because there isn't actually any really impressive game standing out of the crowd.

Tough one. Nothing really shouts out. I played Ollie and Lissa 3 a fair bit, but never the original and I can't say I'd have voted for the sequel if it had been in the list. So I've gone with One Man and His Droid, not a huge favourite but one that I certainly did enjoy playing once upon a time (though I'm not convinced it'd stand the test of time).

There is nothing on Earth that could convince me that voting for Outrun isn't crazy talk!

One Man And His Droid for me. O is a bad letter isn't it. Ralf is right, hard to pick the best of a bad show.
I'm very tempted to go for On The Run too, i'm still unsure which to pick so i might switch over the next few days.

I know my P game already, cos i'm not a wally.

Do you find letter 'O' weird/bad/whatever?

Wait till letter 'Q' (only two threads away) or 'X'! :D

Quazatron, surely. Probably even less competition than M.

Ah, but with computer games, X can be fairly common (unlike with regular subjects).

Back in the day, I had YS's Tipshop Tiptionary, which at the time for me was the longest alphabetical list of Spectrum games. And I saw plenty I liked under S and T. It's going to be a lot of work for me when I hit those letters.

The only games starting with X I remember now are Xeno (good game, by the way) or Xavior .

I'm afraid it'll be a very short list.

I went for The Oracle's Cave. I have really fond memories of the day I got my Speccy, Xmas '83, and spending hours playing it with my mum. Never did manage to complete it.

Second would have been Operation Wolf (one of the last Speccy games I ever bought), followed by Olli and Lissa which was a damn fine budget game.

Yep, me too - Oracle's Cave.

Early dungeon hack, loved playing it.

Hell yes!!! Q is such an easy pick. May be a short list, but nothing comes close to KLP2.

Wow, you really inserted Oh sh*t!, which is probably what the users said when reading the "O" list.

For me, it's a really easy choice, because I had a great and frantic fun playing Orc Attack! three or four years ago, when I actually found how to move the sprite properly. Great little arcade game.

I'm also glad that somebody voted for Ometron, which I've proposed, and it's a cute little vector graphics shoot'em up from the early days - which I've also discovered only recently (well, five years ago).

Out Run has always been a bore to me, while I found the technically brilliant Operation Wolf rather hard.

As for the "poor choices letters" that we're going to meet, I think "X" will have some fine candidates, with stuff like Xor (great puzzle game) and Xecutor.

Just realised after the role playing thread that Out of the Shadows would have been a good addition to the 'O' list.

Might have taken me a bit of time to decide between that and Oracle's Cave.

There we go, Ocean's Operation Wolf secures the win for O by gaining six votes.

Closely followed by Firebird's Ollie & Lisa, with five votes.

Joint third - The Oracle's Cave and Out Run - four votes each.

In fourth: One Man And His Droid and Orc Attack, two votes each.

Yer also-rans are On The Run; Ometron; Operation Thunderbolt and Overlander, each with one vote.

Still, Oh Mummy didn't win and that's the main thing.
