Re: Quake demo
That looks beyond impossible. At the start, the emulator selects TR DOS rather than the usual Sinclair products. Is this some Spectrum Next/ SAM type Z80 clone?

Clever coding and years of optimising. Imagine seeing this kind of stuff in the eightiesbluespikey wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:08 am That looks beyond impossible. At the start, the emulator selects TR DOS rather than the usual Sinclair products. Is this some Spectrum Next/ SAM type Z80 clone?

Don't forget that video is running at 8x normal CPU clock speed. Click through to watch it on YouTube for all the info.
At the minute mark on the video on this NEXT page you can see what Driller looks like running like that.

It is highly optimised and runs far better than Driller or anything else from the Speccy's past though. Impressive to code all that in Z80. There's even some texturing on the front of the enemies.

Yeah, on a normal 128 it looks like:
Which is still impressive, but not nearly as fluid looking

Re: Quake demo
Faster than the Freescape titles. BITD, Driller was a "Wow!" for me. Now I have no words for this.

Re: Quake demo
I just tried it on the eLeMeNt ZX running at 30 MHz and it is completely fluid such an unreal experience.
