Y'know, other stuff, Sinclair related.

This one evokes some striking similarities, I think. Doesn't it.

No idea. I was with all the cool people playing 8 bit computers elsewhere.

Having said that, I of the Mask would be a good name for a nightclub.

That is "Vision" nightclub in Manchester. Classic under the arch type of place.

Okay, I was just in Sainsbury’s and nearly tripped over this. Then I thought:”Huh, that reminds me of…”?

My first reaction was that it's a platform from Head Over Heels...

I thought Alien 8 but no, you're right, Head Over Heels.

As an aside, does anyone else get Spectrum Music in the Real World? I'm not a Coldplay fan and when I hear a particular track called 'Clocks' (I just had to look the title up), I always think of a game...

The way my bathroom door sometimes rests often reminds me of the logo to a particular software house.

So tell me... when you hear Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, what is the first thing that goes through your head?

It it a Penrose tribar and a man in a top hat who can't get into his bedroom, or it is the impending arrival of a marauding Cockney intro?

Is it both?

I give up. The closest I can get is the (fantastic) Xecutor intro music, but it can't be that.

Unquestionably the former! Thought I remember that 'Avabanaaaaanah' having variants like 'Jana Navooootna', so we should probably have a Speccy version.

...which is a much better fit.

The thing about "'Ave a banana" is that the words fit perfectly to the rhythm of the tune and aren't difficult to get out your mouth perfectly. It's something to do with "strong and weak vowel forms" that will be explained by various ThemTubers out there. Ronnie James Dio, now departed from this world for 13 years (and he'd be 81 if he was still alive), was an absolute master of making words fit the tune perfectly, which is why some of his lyrics didn't make a lot of sense (and not just because they were mostly Dungeons & Dragons style) but still didn't seem out of place.

"Oh, don't you see what I mean?"

If not, the first three Rainbow albums and Dio's early solo stuff might give you the idea, and this post has definitely not been an excuse to link to the video of Holy Diver.

At the other end of the scale, one of Iron Maiden's rare clangers is Lightning Strikes Twice. It's from the difficult Blaze Bayley years, but this wasn't his fault. I don't care you you put behind the mic - Steve Grimmett, Doogie White, Steve Overland, or anyone else who auditioned to replace Bruce Dickinson - the words don't fit the tune or the tempo and just come out as a car crash of consonants. Hence, Bruce couldn't have saved it either, neither could Paul Di'Anno, Dennis Wilcock or Paul Day. Ronnie James Dio was still very much alive in 1998 (aged 56...) and he'd have had an argument with Steve Harris about how badly the words didn't fit the space and time available

The burning question of the day is, can there be a Spectrum-themed "'Ave a banana" that Dio could have written and approved? There's your real target.

I noticed this shop yesterday, so today I stopped and took a picture.
Perhaps I should go in and ask for the location of any Orolas (the small aliens that you're supposed to collect in the game) ;)

Are you kidding? The window's full of them! And with a bit of imagination, there's Beebul at the top left.
