New forum game -- Spectrum graphics in the real world?

Post by 5MinuteRetro »

This was originally going to be an idle post about about how a particular feature of a neighbouring house's frontage regularly reminds me of a Spectrum game. But as I was writing it I realised it might make a, er, 'fun' new game for the forum. So, let's see how it goes...

This brickwork catches my eye every time I pass my neighbour's place, because my mind sees a particular graphic in a particular Spectrum game. What's the game(/screen)?

Image

(I'm not sure this game will work with 'turns', as there's no reason to assume the guesser will have another image in mind, and still less ready to go... so perhaps just a gentlefolks' agreement to not deluge the thread with too many at once? Or, you know, it could just die on its arse. :D )

Well that didn't take long! And perhaps -- just perhaps -- XTM will find this game a bit trickier. Here's the screen (and as an aside, BITD I never knew that these craters were an important part of the game!):

Right. Your turn? Or someone else...

Great idea for a forum game btw. It might take me a while to find something, so if anyone else wants to have a go, feel free.

Heh yep Yesod was my first thought. Your neighbour just needs a little garden mole sculpture popping out of it.

This one is probably too easy if this is supposed to be a guessing game. But, I can never look at a picture of the iconic tourist trap of Hakone without my mind going straight to a certain game:

That features several times in Seto Taisho vs Yokai.

Dave is awarded a 1000 points as a time bonus. Blue must improve.

I can't think of one at the moment, so feel free to jump in.

I’m mean clearly you’re correct that it features in said game but I’m guessing the ‘right’ answer was Way of the Exploding Fist…?

Oops. I actually thought @p13z meant IK+! That's why I made the joke about time bonuses.

Now you mention, WOTEF is more likely.

Well, by genuine coincidence, when I entered my bedroom earlier I saw something else that - admittedly because of this thread - made me instantly think of another Spectrum game. So, so to give this game a flying start, here’s my second of the day. What game is depicted by my bed’s duvet cover?

Lulz - natch. Only somehow less colourful on my duvet than in the attribute-constrained Spectrum.

Good thread. Quite similar to the long-running Out Of Context Spectrum Games. I suppose that thread is more about game titles, though it's had a few "guess the image" entires, too such as this and this.

This one reminds me of Ninja (aka Ninja Mission)

Oh yeah. Well I never played that on the Spectrum, so WOTEF all the way for me.

I forgot to post this yesterday, I don't know if it's ok to follow up on this one right now since you changed the motive.
My guess here is Sabre Wulf.
