Searching

I've always just used the publisher search at to the top of the site.


After searching "phipps" I noticed something weird and just wanted to understand it.

When using advanced search I can get back all the results (42 including everythig, or 31 if just for spectrum)

When using the normal quick search at the top the results come back as 31. But then it's a slightly different list

• Adventure tape No 1 (Spectrum 16k)
• Demolition (ZX81 16k)
• Gorgon (Spectrum 48k)
• Pocket Book Games (Spectrum 16k)
• Ten Pin Bowling (ZX81 16k)
• The ZX80 Pocket Book (ZX81 16k)

Why are these particular games would be missing from the phipps list using a general publisher search?

This is just an example I ran into. I've got to go back through all of my collection now and redo all my lists because I could be missing titles, I never thought that there would be a difference but if I could understand why then maybe it will be easier to know if I'm missing any titles rather than spending time going through everything.

Let me try and replicate this over the weekend.

Try using "advanced search" again, but this time select "Strict Search" (bottom right corner).

You should get the same result as "quick search".

Just checked and the quick search at the top does not include titles within a compilation, where as entering publisher in the advanced search will bring back everything.

We are going to change the quick search so it brings back the same number of results as the advanced search.
