I'm guessing that.
- ZX Spectrum
- "push-scrolling" is awful
- pick one

(I personally wish there'd been more "Stuntman Seymour" stuff pre-1992 EOL panic, although the levels could look very spartan once they ran out of memory)

None of the above.

Think of it, it's a really hard game...

"Back in the day, I got a copy of this game with infinite lives. Even so, it was really hard to reach the end"

It's like evolution. We have unlimited tries (until the sun implodes) and we keep getting better, but nobody ever wins.
Too soon?

Good shot, but no.

The definite clue:

"At the middle of the game, the random colour of a gem is the key to choose the correct colour in a later screen to go on the game. In those days I played with a B/W telly so it was almost impossible to continue!"

Congratulations!

We have a winner! :dance

PS: Don't play that game with a B/W TV!

Didn't know Abu Simbnel was part of a series. On its own, its all the game you could ever want. (But then, it was years before I realised that Fred and Sir Fred were related, so I'm maybe not the brightest).

I had to find out which “series” Abu Simbel Profanation was from. I only remember the Gremlin UK release and looking at the database, no other games are referred to as part of a series.

BUT the original Spanish instructions has this

So I guess it’s part of Saimazoom and Babaliba. I didn’t know that, I’ll have to give them a try.

Yes, it's part of the 'Johnny Jones saga' (Saimazoom, Babaliba & Abu Simbel), as it is considered in ZXDB.

In fact, there was a fourth game, Crystalis, never released. In the last screen of Abu Simbel, the revealed message was "We see you in the Pole", implying there was going to be another sequel.

I think Abu Simbel was distributed in UK via Gremlin, unlike the previous games, hence the confusion.

Its hard to know whether the awful jump and ladder attack were last minute amends to make this otherwise short game last longer.

Ooops, sorry. Forgot about this. Thats a good answer, but a bit cold, sorry.

Theres this review :
It could have been better, I suppose.
But fortunately theres also this :
A quirky and taxing platform game set into a giant fridge. Additional dangers like the freezing ray, that you must avoid while on the ladders, require a great deal of coordination. I had good fun with it back in the day and although it has not aged very well, I still regard it with some nostalgia.

Thats it, well done. It might be heresy, but I prefer it to Booty.

What's this? :
An average conversion of a very popular arcade game. The game itself becames very boring after a while because you basically use the same method of attack.
It was good for a few plays that nothing to jump about.

Yay, have a go a this then:

"The aesthetic is clearly Manic Minerian in a very cute way, little in game tune included. The gameplay is different instead, it's not a platform, but a one screen you're-in-a-maze-so-collect-the-items-and-avoid-the-nasties game, although I'm not certain this is the technical name for it."

Wow, was just first thing I thought of that vaguely fit.

How about:
Nice, but not special, maze/platform/adventure with a sort of driving section near the end, as strange as it seems, if you manage to get there.
