Reviews for Scaramouche (#10161)

Wow Sinclair Randomseek's having a field day giving me games beginning with S. This is a fencing type game, or more precisely a cavalier simulator game. Its gameplay is similar to an old Taito arcade game called The Great Swordsman, you can attack his head, body or legs with your sword. This actually didn't play too badly but it just appears to be random. You can do more damage to him yet he'll beat you with one blow and vice versa. It's largely reliant on luck rather than skill but it's still a pretty nice game for its concept.

Don't really know what to say about this little game. Little in the sense that it's just a duel between two swordsmen, one is Scaramouche, the other(s) are guardians of the palace. You have to defeat in each level between 4-6 guardians in order to proceed to the next level. Besides level one, 'The Gardens', the other 2 levels I've reached are in B&W, an entrace and 'the Cardinals Quarters' with no ink filling giving an impression of unfinished. All backgrounds are well drawn, though.
Graphically the swordsmen are well designed and well animated, but the combined movements are somewhat repetitive and not that varied, taking into account the amount of keys you have (6 in total). Probably I'm not playing it well enough, but to be honest, the challenging effect this game has on me is almost zero. Because not only lacks excitement, but once you discover an effective move, you can use it always, just by pressing 2 keys you can reach the end easily.
