1983 Calisto (UK)
by J.M. Allen
This RPG game from early as 1983 is kind of nice. It's little known with almost no reference to it throughout the media of the day, which may explain why it it so little talked about. It mixes elements of action and strategy. You play the role of a mercenary hired by a Baron to "clean" up his Castle. You win or lose points along the way and the game ends in a win if you reach 12000 points and find the 3 Baron's magic weapons. There are mazes, secret rooms, monsters and guards and fights were you have to select which part of the enemy to attack, all done in a fast dynamic way, even if the game is written in BASIC, it plays fast enough to be enjoyable. Graphics are either simple USR's or PLOT/DRAW commands. The use of sound is also effective. And I feel the overall game is quite good and would have played it extensively back in the 80's.
