Reviews for Antares (#14883)

Antares [Dro Soft]
It's a sort of Uridium-inspired horizontal shoot'em up, but the gameplay is in Spanish. The typical 1987's blindness syndrome affects this game too.
2/5

1987 Dro Soft (Spain)
by Manuel Valero (Juliet Software)

Another dubious title from Juliet Software.
This time it's a shoot-em-up. Graphically it's well made, not brilliant but good, and overall seems averagely written. But the real problem seems to be the actual objective of the game, you shoot enemy ships for quite a while and then... you shoot enemy ships for quite a while again... until you end up with no power. At the surface this seems normal, but the problem is there isn't any progression feeling, it's like you're moving in circles just repeating the same actions over and over again. And the way your energy is drained is a bit unclear, you never die from contact with another ship and neither energy is drained from you, even though you see your power being reduced. Well, this seems more like an incomplete game than anything else, so I not gonna bother with it again.

It's another shooter from Juliet Software but I have to say it's certainly not as bad as their other games. It is at the very least a game that can be played, but what doesn't help is the screen flashing randomly which hurts the eyes, plus you lose health for it and I have not found a way to prevent such a thing as it's in Spanish. Antares isn't gutwrenchingly bad like Eagle and Caverns of Death but it's ugly, it's boring, it's confusing and it's not fun.
