Reviews for Energy Warrior (#1632)

Not a resounding shmup at all, far too much of the same the whole way through and it just bores out fairly quickly. Not recommended.

To my knowledge this was the only title of the very short-lived Mastertronic MAD-X range. The idea was to offer you two games on a same tape for £ 2.99.

It is a competently made, but ultimately rather shallow shoot-em-up, where you command a hunting flying vessel battling different patterns of aliens on a nicely rendered background, complete with three different layers of parallax scrolling. Anyone who knows how the Spectrum display is managed will wonder at this piece of technical marvel.

Other than that, there's not much. The game on the B side, Molecule Man, is more complex and involving.

Horizontal shoot'em up with a very nice parallax effect and not much else, its playability is sheer easyness, which - coupled with repetitiveness - doesn't make it very interesting to play.

Wow this shooter is fricking weird. You travel through different parts on England, Stockport, The Moor, Russholme for instance, and you have to shoot various strange enemies, which includes giant maltesers, cup cakes, and flying headsd which seem to have a bit of a likeness to Ronald Reagan. It's not too bad and it's a million times better than Molecule Man but it just comes across as bland to me and after you play it once would you want a second go, likely chance is no. It's not bad, it's just quite dull and not very interesting.
