Reviews for Cavern Capers (#23533)

This was written by the same fella that wrote Robot Rumpus which was published by Atlantis. However, this game was rejected by Atlantis for being too similar to Robot Rumpus, well I'll be the judge of that. Indeed the collectible element is pretty much the same as the gems collected in Robot Rumpus but the gameplay is different in that rather than collect gems and reaching an exit you are instead working your way down the level and choosing your path as you go along, and rather than lives you have an energy bar which goes down when you hit an enemy or when you make a deacent before touching ground. It's all and all a poorer game compared to Robot Rumpus because the gameplay here doesn't quite work so well it was more a disappointment. Maybe Atlantis didn't turn this game down because it was similar to a game they released a year prior, but it was a bit crap.

This game was turned down by Atlantic Software for being too similar to Robot Rumpus, another game by Simon. Both have indeed some similarities but play differently. None of the games however are particularly good. Robot Rumpus suffers from amateurish programming and Cavern Capers, although a step forward technically, is still quite amateurish itself.
I still prefer it to Robot Rumpus, which seems almost unplayable to me, even though the idea of one screen at a time appeals me more than what you get in Cavern Capers.
