Reviews for Howard the Duck (#2370)

Naff game which manages to be even worse than the already naff movie it's based upon (and that's quite a feat in itself, considering the direness of the latter). Bad graphics, almost no sound, boring gameplay and can be finished on the second or third go.

Just as pathetic as the movie itself. Absolute bog-standard.

This is a bad game, but being licensed from a bad movie, it can be said that it's a fair adaptation. The movie was rather perplexing, and it's been buried under thousands of other films since then, I think the last time I've seen it was on tv was lustrums ago. That said the game seems a mix between Spy vs Spy II: The Island Capers and Willow Pattern with the addition a of a beak and lots of feathers. You have to save the world or something, exploring an island and finding things and probably defeating some evil guy somewhere, anyway I've found myself passing the time running-up to jump over quicksands and honking for the frustration while failing, which was no fun.
2/5

In '87 I had no clue on how to play this game, it seemed quite confusing, until a mate of mate showed me how to play it. From then on almost every time I completed the game. It's that easy.
The game is comprised of two main parts, being the first the bigger part, the island, which occupies most of the game plot.
Then you get inside the volcano, via a glider, after crossing a bridge, which is kinda cool and you get to play a smaller second level until you meet the Overlord and defeat him in a duel. Now, shut down the volcano and the game is complete.
Overall I kinda like this game, it's fairly simple, not particularly pretty, graphics are a bit blocky but are funny enough, sound can be annoying, but in the end it's enjoyable enough.
