Reviews for Kikstart 2 (#2694)

Review by Raphie on 09 Feb 2012 (Rating: 4)

Based on the BBC show Kick Start and the sequel to the Commodore 64 only original, Kikstart 2 is a pretty nice bike racing game. It's one I loved years ago when I bought it and the fact that you could make your own courses (and make them as ridiculous as possible) added to the fun of this game. The only gripe was that the computer rider was such a jammy git and was able to get through obstacles you couldn't and it was unfair, also there's not a single bit of sound in this game at all.

Still Kikstart 2 is a nice little game worth playing, be sure to try out the course designer too and get creative.

As a bike racing game it's alright and quite fun but the computer can cheat and spoil your fun. The course designer was a nice feature included but it be long before your excitement drains out. Not all bad though.

A game title unofficially cashing in on the inexplicable popularity of the kids trials-bike TV show, 'Kickstart', from the era.
This is a good side-scrolling game. Get your bike across the obstacles as quickly as possible. Control can get tricky. Even after practice, falling off your bike can be hard to avoid. Stringing together a good time after learning a course can feel very satisfying. Graphics are smooth, clear and attractive, if slightly plain.
What makes this great is the addition of a course designer and two player mode. As a two player game this is a real classic. Designing a course with a friend, then battling for the best time on it was just fun. For times alone, and Billy Nomates, there is a computer friend to race against.
This game has its flaws, but it deserves a 5 from me, for the amount of enjoyment given as a two player game over the years, especially as a budget £1.99 title.

Really fun game with a nice course designer to go with it. The computer player is very unfair but it's still fun to play.
