Reviews for Los Angeles SWAT (#2934)

This is my guilty pleasure - one of those games so shockingly awful I actually enjoy playing them every now and then, like watching a trash and over-pretentious movie just to poke fun at it. What should have been an action game of street warfare turns out as a hideous mess of garish colors, graphics which look like they were drawn by a 3-year-old kid and shoddy gameplay.

There is not much appeal about this game, except maybe the genre, if you appreciate it. It slightly resembles 'Who Dares Wins II', mainly because of the colours, graphics and theme. Once you start playing you realize it has nothing to do with it.

The graphics are awkwardly strange. The only character I can truly appreciate is the old lady on the side walk, the rest seem to have been severely beaten in a mixer and then put together. Sound is mediocre and serves its purpose barely.

Now about the game itself, its so slow it really gets unnerving, specially at the start of each game or when approaching the next level. The enemies movement is very predictable making the game dull after a few plays. Also you cant fire in diagonal up-right. Why does this happen I don't know, maybe programmers laziness?

There are lots of other problems with the game, but it's not all that bad and I even enjoyed it for a while. Yes, I admit it!

Los Angeles SWAT [Entertainment USA]

Another slaughtergame, this time with a vertical movement along the streets of a crime-ridden town, where lots of jerky and repellent urban thugs kindly approach you to kill you, but - be careful - don't shoot at the grannies! It's a game about degradation and decadence: and it shows under every aspect, including graphics, sound and gameplay.

One of the most notoriously bad games ever released on the Spectrum. This has some of the worst graphics on any game ever, what are you supposed to be? A cop? What the enemies supposed to be? They look like either indians or tribal warriors? Pretty sure they were meant to be terrorists. And the gameplay is just bad, it seems like you're meant to walk up the screen but yet there's hardly any progress to this at all. This is the same developer who brought us Uchi Mata and the same label that brought us Cage Match a year later, so in retrospect this was gonna be shit and it truly is.

An old friend of mine paid £2.99 for this heap of dogshit!

Haha! What a complete mug!

Glad it wasn't me, that's for sure!

It's one of those delightfully terrible curios, that it would almost be worth owning a real copy, just so you can say you own one of the worst games ever released on the Spectrum.

Abysmal in every single level. Deservedly considered one of the very worst ZX Spectrum games.
