Reviews for Predator (#3863)

1987 Activision Inc (UK)

A major disappointment to everyone I know who played it. This time I think it's very fair to say the game is all looks but no gameplay. Starts with a loading sequence completely annoying and every time you lose a life and want to go back and play, you have to rewind the tape somewhere to the middle of it and wait about 15 seconds to finished that "awesome" intro... again. If only the game was any good...

The game by itself, is too confusing. You go around like a blind bat trying to figure out what to do. Then when you find out, you have to deal with the slowness of everything, bad key response (or maybe just slow) and with an unfair difficulty level.
Backgrounds and overall sprites are very nice, bla, bla, bla, let's face it, this was just Activision milking on a successful tie-in license.

Horrible film licenced game. Predator is a great film but this does nothing for it. Atrocious.

I think this is multiload stuff, anyway it certainly is a multi-Arnold thing, because each time you start a game you must watch a bunch of Schwarzneggers jumping down the helicopter and exit to the right, one by one, which is rather annoying, even because this sequence lasts more than my average attempt at the game. The presentation is ok, it's what you expect from a big software house, with a nice digitalized loading screen, a brief but big intro sequence, well drawn graphics [except for the baddies] and good animation, although all immersed in a weedy greenish monochrome [except when the Predator is targeting you, and you see the world through purple tinted glass]. The problem is that it's not the most playable game in the world, responsiveness is limited and difficulty is high. You won't survive long.
2,5/5

looking back even though it probably would have also been crap, this game should have been a platformer, a top down shooter, or a multi-format level game.

As it turns out it's a beat em' up without any fighting....Well OK that's stretching it a little bit. It's a 2.5D shoot em' up, and it's quite frankly crap!

I never actually managed to finish the game way back when it came out, as well I have no idea if me and my friends (Who's copy it was, once again glad I didn't pay for this) version of Predator was bugged, or it was every copy that was broken, but the game would freeze up at the finale (Although I have encountered this problem during emulation as well).
We never got to call the Predator one ugly motherfucker, and watch him blow himself up, as our hero took a running jump into some mud to avoid a thermo nuclear blast, and survived.

For shame!
