Reviews for Bedlam (#495)

Madly frantic vertical space shoot'em up of the late eighties - released in a 128k version only.

It contains a pinball subgame, that sometimes interrupts the destructive main game.

The funniest to play, in the genre.

Definately one of the nicer looker shmups on the Speccy complete with a pretty nice pinball minigame in between, it's just really really REALLY tough, like hair-pulling tough! And me hasn't got much hair left! And I'm not even 30 yet!!!

I mean it looks nice, good graphics and all and the pinball minigame adds something to it but it's a right challenge in it's own right. If this sounds like your kind of game then give it a go and you might well like it.

Slick, colorful and fast vertically scrolling shooter in the vein of Light Force. It was one of the first games only available for 128K Spectrums.

The action is very simple even for 1988 standards - just shoot anything that moves and try to score as many points as possible. Therefore no power-ups are available for the player, except for a fire rate increase. An odd bonus screen features a (very basic) pinball simulator.

It's been however done in such a smooth way that it will be enjoyed by any Alien zapper.

It's not a bad shooter, it just felt bland to me and there's a degree of slowdown during the game that hurts it considerably. There are mini games throughout the game I believe which may add to the enjoyment for some, but I've only got to the pinball and it doesn't last long, so from my experience it doesn't really add anything to this average shooter.
