Reviews for Subbuteo (#4978)

Nice attempt to port the flicky footie favourite to a computer game but it doesn't quite work out well. Far too many times you are forced to play defence and try to "snookered" the opposition. It does require strategy and patience, perhaps a little too much and you'd be fortunate if you even score a goal. Brave effort but stick to the real thing.

Truthfully, they should have left this one alone. This was never going to work for a computer game and alas it doesn't work here. Subbuteo in real life is fun, enthralling and sore on your fingers, this computer game version is dull, confusing and sore on your brain. One licence too far I think.
This is in fact a pretty good game, the problem is you will always be comparing it to the original physical game or to other football games.
But this doesn't play like any other soccer game, and although it is fairly faithful to the original Subbuteo it doesn't quite work the same, the experience is somewhat awkward.
Physical games most of the times fail in being recreated as a computer game.
You could say the same for soccer games, in a PC you play them with your fingers, not your feet and the computerized experience is very different than running on a field after a ball and kicking it when you have the chance. But the difference is soccer games work AND are fun to play.
Still, I think the authors deserve merit for trying to port it, you never know until you try.
