Reviews for Super Sprint (#5045)

Speccy version of the iconic top-down multi-player racing game.
This game is fun on all platforms, especially playing with friends. The Spectrum version is not one of the best, though still a good game. Graphics and sound are adequate. Control of the car is a tad clumsy compared to other versions, and even feels slightly glitchy when a collision occurs at a 45 degree angle.
To this day, this is fun to play, and a good way to kill a few minutes racing with a mate. Admittedly, there are better Sprint clones available for the Speccy, but this one is 'the classic'.

Top view racing game with miniature machines racing on a single screen track. It's nice.

Super Sprint - Converted from the Atari coin-op, Super Sprint has one or two players competing against other two CPU-controlled cars in a series of tracks viewed from above each one in a single screen. Tracks feature bends and twist, ramps, barriers etc. and become more and more complex the further you progress into the game, although you are able to start to play from any one of them. Collect golden wrenches in order to gain power-ups to make your car more competitive, such as faster top speed or tires to make the car stabler when following the curves. Sound is pretty minimal and graphics are essential, but inertia and acceleration are pretty well implemented. Of course you cannot play with a steering wheel like in the arcades, but other than that it's a competent and well-made conversion, best played with a human companion. 3.5/5.

Have to say I was disappointed with this. The car doesn't control very well and glitches and gets stuck from time to time. It looks great, but it doesn't exactly play that great.

Not a bad conversion of the Atari coin-op, but after you've played the original game it feels a bit underwhelmed.
It takes some time to get the complete hang of the car, and in the beginning can be quite frustrating. The use of the braking system in curves is absolutely recommended.
The game allows for two players, a very welcome feature. There is also several tracks to choose from and you can choose any, and after that you will progress into the next. Golden wrenches give you power ups, like turbo speed or tires better suitable for the track and a few other objects scattered about the track will have different effects. Oil, bonuses, etc. There is also a tornado spinning thru the track while the race happens, which most be avoided. This a fun little game that could have been better if only it was easier to control. There a couple better games similar to this one available to play which are much more rewarding.
