Reviews for The Artist II (#7919)

As far as I am aware, this was the best art package for the Spectrum at the time. It had the same look as the art packages on 16 bit machines, like Degas and Deluxe Paint, and even had support for mouse. It works very nicely with a mouse, and is also good with keyboard control. It has all the functions you could expect from an art package on the Spectrum, and they work quickly and smoothly.

The second graphic utility I started using after dedicating myself to creating games instead of just playing them.
My most used tool was the Art Studio, which is a great and simpler tool to use than the Artist II, but has less features which help speed up things, although you can still do them with Art Studio. I haven't use both in a loong time, so I can be sure of the differences, but I can surely say these two utilities were (and I think still are) absolute musts if you wanted to make use of the graphic capabilities of the Spectrum, either creating loading screens or developing your graphics. I remember writing a scanner (at that time I didn't know what a scanner was!) in order to speed up the procedure of creating graphics which I first designed using these 2 utilities.
