Reviews for CJ's Elephant Antics (#9323)

A quite cutesy platformer from Codemasters. This was one of my favourite platformers growing up and it's still quite playable today but the game doesn't have the best scrolling and while the graphics are nicely detailed and colourful, the sprites interact with the background colours at all times, causing a mass amount of colour clash. Still it's a really good game and a nice alternative to Dizzy.

One example of the wave of platform games mainly aimed at children that sadly marked the end of the Spectrum's life as a commercially active product. Graphics are colorful but a bit messy at times; sound features some nice AY effects and tunes; gameplay is tried-and-tested platform fare, but not very fast; originality is quite scarce, since what I wrote until now can be said for several other games released by Code Masters for the Spectrum in the same period of time as this. A crepuscular game indeed.

The Code Masters attempt The New Zealand Story and even manage to replicate the horrible scrolling!
Ok, so it's not exactly the same but there's enough similarities to make the comparison. It's a very good game, released at a time when good games were becoming harder to find. I loved it then and I still enjoy playing it now.

Now this is a game I always remembered being a fun little game. It's marred by colour clash and scrolling issues and maybe it's me getting older but the in-game music was doing my head in a bit, but playing it now was just as fun as I remembered it to be.

It would be unfair to rate this game below a 4, even thou I wouldn't classified it in my top 3 of cute platformers.
The game looks are obviously a standout, colorful, cute, not sure if they are all that childish, taking into to account earlier games such as Donkey Kong, Sabre Wulf or even Pac-man for that matter. But the gameplay is also quite nice, the scrolling could be better done and some color crash could be avoidable, but the overall game is really fun and enjoyable.
