Review by The Dean of Games on 10 Apr 2019 (Rating: 3)

1984 Melbourne House (UK)
by Grahame Willis

A horror text adventure game in 2 parts, based upon the Dracula story, although he is never mentioned in the game. Story wise it's interesting, challenging and with colorful pictures, although a bit to cheerful for a horror story. The game can be finished but not completely, what that means is that after you've freed the maiden, the Count still lives on in bat form. Supposedly there was a way to kill the Count, and for many years players tried to figure out the solution with no success. Out of the blue, after almost 2 decades later Grahame Willis, the author, revealed that there is no way to kill the count. In a great fun twist he also revealed that in 1985, he sent a letter to magazine Computer & Video Games pretending to be a guy called Steve King stating that he had managed to kill the count by attacking him with a spear which broke in the attack, then you could use the broken spear as a stake to kill the count.
Of course no one managed to do that. He reveals it was a stunt he pulled in order to invite addiction. You have to love this stories!
