GOLF ==== CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF IN YOUR OWN HOME! by David Thomson Instructions Challenge family and friends to a round of tournament golf with this exciting and authentic version of one of the most popular sports. Any number up to four can play, just feed your names into the computer, decide how many holes you want to play from 1-18, ana you're ready to play! All the standard rules of golf apply, but should you need to be reminded of these, the computer will tell you all you need to know. It will also ask each of you to fill in your handicap from 0-28. The first hole now appears on the screen. Notice the distance and the par for the hole and examine it carefully. Those lakes and bunkers are only too ready to claim a loose ball! Now choose your club from the following (distance travelled at strength 10): 2 wood travels 200 yards 3 iron travels 172 yards 5 iron travels 14S yards 7 iron travels 128 yards 9 iron travels 100 yards putter travels 23 yards (your putter will be automatically selected when you are on the green). Next choose the direction of your shot, using the direction indicator in the top right hand corner as your guide. The indicator will point due North for each hole, so you must work out your angle from 0°. i.e. 0° is North 90° is East 180° is South 270° is West with various directions in between. Example: If you wish to direct the ball 10° west of the Northern point, feed this into the computer as -10, or alternatively as 350. Finally you must enter the amount of strength you wish to apply to your shot on a scale from 0-10. Remember this relates directly to the club you have selected. Now you're ready to play your first stroke! Apply these simple steps to each shot, varying the club, direction and strength according to the length of the hole and your position on the course, and you'll soon have the hang of tournament golf! If you want to add an extra degree of competitiveness to your game, play the blind option, which prevents your opponents from seeing you prepare for a shot. There's no need to worry about the score, the computer keeps that for you and gives a breakdown of your score after each hole. If you have your own printer, it will issue you with a score card at the end of the game. If not, this information will be displayed on your screen. With endless variation factors built into your program, plus of course the odd duff shot which even the professionals make from time to time, no two games of 'Golf' are alike. So watch your handicap improve with practice, and who knows, you too could become a scratch golfer! David Thomson is 29 years old and comes from Dumfries, Scotland. He has degrees in Applied Mathematics and Operational Research from St Andrews and Strathclyde universities. The idea for the GOLF game derives from years of duffing round the Old Course. He now works as a business analyst for a large firm and lives in London with his wife Anne. His hobbies include swimming, cycling, motorcycling and DIY and he hopes to join a golf club when he can afford it!
