CP SOFTWARE, 17 Orchard Lane, Prestwood, Great Missenden, BUCKS, HP16 0NN ABOUT GOLFING WORLD Golfing World is a challenging series of inter-related games: Handicap Golf; The Club Championship; The Open. Handicap Golf is a one or two player game played on a randomly generated course making each round of 18 holes different. Course features include, trees, water, bunkers, rough and out of bounds. Everyone starts with the maximum handicap of 24 which means that you are expected to complete the course in 24 over the par. Par being the expected number of strokes to complete the course, or a hole. With a handicap of 24 and a course par of 72 you will be expected to complete the course in 96 strokes. If you score 90 then your new handicap will be 90 - 72 = 18. When you get a new handicap you will also be given a code number to validate your handicap. Remember this number and enter it correctly when asked at the start of the next game. As you reduce your handicap so your shots will improve. For instance, a 4 handicap player will usually play shots more accurately than a 24 handicap player. Club Championship can be played when you get a handicap below 12. A corresponding code number will have to be entered to verify this. The Club Championship is a one player game played against 7 strong club players. It is played on a set course modelled on Lytham St. Annes. The Open is the final challenge and can be entered only if you win the Club Championship. Like the Club Championship it is a one player game but this is played against 7 of the 'strongest players in the world'. Again it is played on a set course modelled on Lytham St. Annes. To play the ball onto the green a club and the direction are selected. Once on the green only the putter is used, the ball being played by selecting the direction and strength. If a ball is hit out of bounds or into the water there is a one stroke penalty. The next shot is played from a position near where the ball went out of bounds or into the water. PLAYING INSTRUCTIONS Handicap Golf. To load enter LOAD "hg" When correctly loaded the program is selfstarting. Before a game can commence you are requested to input: number of player; handicap of each player and if the handicap is less than 24 the code number corresponding to that handicap; Strong points, this allows you to select the parts of the game that you consider are most important e.g. Tee shots, Putting. For example, if you enter '5' against Tee shots and you opponent enters '1', then, over 18 holes, your Tee shots will be slightly better. Ten points are available to each player and at least 2 aspects of the game must be given some points. Following these inputs the course details and playing information are given. The first hole is then displayed and along the top of the display from left to right is the player number 1 or 2, the hole number, length and par. To play shots each player in turn is requested to input first a Direction (1-12), corresponding to the points of a clock face, both whole numbers and decimal fractions (e.g. 3.5) can be used. Then a club is selected and entered, a number followed by type. Here are a few notes for guidance on club selection. The lower the club number the further the ball will travel but at a lower trajectory. A wood will usually drive a ball further than an iron. 1 wood (lw) - will drive the ball about 200 yds 2 wood (2w) - more height, less distance 3 wood (3w) - more height, less distance 4 wood (4w) - more height, less distance 1 iron (1i) - will drive the ball about 175 yds 2 iron (2i) - more height, less distance 3 iron (3i) - more height, less distance 4 iron (4i) - more height, less distance 5 iron (5i) - more height, less distance 6 iron (6i) - more height, less distance 7 iron (7i) - more height, less distance 8 iron (8i) - more height, less distance 9 iron (9i) - more height, less distance Wedge (w) - very high, little distance used in deep rough Sand wedge (sw) - for bunker shots and when very close to the green. The best way to see how the various clubs can hit the ball is to play some practice rounds. After each shot, if your ball is not on the fairway, you are told where it has landed. Remember there is a penalty stroke for going out of bounds or into water. On the green you select direction and strength of putt. The speed and slope of the green are indicated at the top fo the display. After each hole the score card is shown followed by each players performance so far. At the end of a round (18 holes) scores for that round and each players new handicap and corresponding code number are given. The Club Championship and Open playing instructions are the same as for Handicap Golf. The differences being that these are played on a set course and are one player competitions. A leader board shows your position, after each hole, in relation to the 7 players (played by the computer) that you are matched against.
